Today's activity. A visit to the Vander EndeOnderdonk House, a historic house on the Brooklyn-Queens Border between Bushwick and Maspeth, parts of which dat...e back to the last days of Dutch New Amsterdam in 1661. Note the 'dutch' (2 part) door. 'Arbritration Rock' was one of the markers used to define the original Kings-Queens county borders (which were changed slightly in the early 20th century). See more
Here's a fun place we visited in midtown last weekend - Modern pinball, also billed as the 'Museum of Modern Pinball'
Sunday in the new section of Governor's Island, including the new hill and slides. Note Queen Mary 2 docked in Red Hook. #govisland
Last week an afternoon at "Lego fest" at the Hall of Science and the nearby "Lemon Ice King". The large room with the green background is an exhibit in the o...riginal 'Great Hall' from the 1964 Worlds Fair. If the Lemon Ice King looks familiar, it's been in many movies and TV shows, and was in the opening credits in "The King of Queens". See more
Last weekend at Fleet Week (USS Bataan ... an amphibious assault ship), and across from Fleet Week in Weekhawken.
Last weekend at Old Westbury Gardens; on the grounds is the Phipps estate, built by the heirs to U.S. Steel in the early 20th century. One of several Long Island 'Gold Coast' estates on the North Shore.
Spent a nice afternoon at the New York (I mean New-York) Historical Society last week. Went to see "Silicon City - Computer History in New York"; so for example... see the 1964 version of Skype or Facetime --- the ill-fated 'Picture Phone'. Speaking of the 60s, an authentic Batmobile is in the lobby (from the light-hearted 60s version). Then stumbled across in an upstairs gallery the Picasso tapestry that hung in the Four Seasons for many years. Finally I never noticed the spelling of 'New-York' Historical Society ... as per wikipedia: "The Historical Society uses an archaic spelling of the geographic name of "New York". Hyphenating the city's old name was common in the 19th century when the institution was founded",
Inspired by last Wednesday's Gowanus walk with Rich Garr and Andrea Coyle that I took Kim and Lucy for a dinner at Monte's and a visit to Ample Hills Ice Cream.
With Lucy at the Transit Museum yesterday; that had the 3 restored AB Standards running between the museum and Hoyt St. Met Sheila Myers-Danyluk and Nestor there.
Today at the 'original' Easter Parade.
At AMNH, seeing the new Titanosaurus, with her friend Eliza.
