Plastic bags in trees should be stopped at their source. Even as we attempt to improve conditions on the ground, strengthening communities while doing so, we invite you to learn more about our plastic problems and how to stop them from Beyond Plastics (@beyondplasticsaction) below: ~~~~~ NYC implemented a plastic bag ban in October 2020. Nearly 7 months later, the DEC is beginning to ramp up enforcement which is critical. Prior to the bag ban, New Yorkers used a staggering 2...3 billion plastic bags every year. These bags pose a threat to wildlife, oceans, waterways, and human health. Beyond Plastics activists have logged hundreds of complaints about retailers who continue to give out plastic bags in violation of the ban, particularly in NYC. Some chains, including Dollar General, Gristedes and D'Agostino's seem to view the law as a suggestion rather than a mandate. We're fortunate that New York State passed a strong bag ban and you can help reduce this unnecessary source of plastic pollution by calling on the DEC to fully enforce the bag ban, Tuesday, May 18th. ~~~~~ Dial: 518-402-8545 to share your support of the plastic bag ban and urge proper enforcement. #PlanetOverPlastic #plasticpollution #refusesingleuse #embracereuse #breakfreefromplastic #toxicplastic #plasticfree #plasticpollutes #wildlifeoverwaste #embracereuse #reuserevolution
