Out of the Archives: 80 years ago today, the holing through of two sections of tunnel near Kensico Reservoir marked a major milestone in the Delaware Aqueduct’s construction. Here, workers on the north and south sides shake hands where the tunnel excavation met up perfectly, about 300 feet underground. October 15, 1940. Out of the Archives, Then and Now: In the 1950s, the Board of Water Supply built the Margaretville sewer system to protect drinking water by keeping waste away from Pepacton Reservoir. They took photos on October 8, 1956, to document conditions before the start of construction. 64 years later, the town still has Main Street charm and an important connection to the water supply system. Margaretville is among six watershed communities where DEP owns and operates the wastewater treatment plant to protect nearby reservoirs. For more views, then and now, see http://bit.ly/2tKkvDE. #tbt
