"As for the recognition from National Nurses Week, Calzia said while the love is much appreciated, he hopes hospital systems as a whole make a concerted effort to prevent burnout by hiring more staff, allowing for adequate breaks and truly promoting wellness."
The American Psychiatric Association’s recent Stress in America report found that eight out of 10 Americans said the pandemic has created significant stress in their life. This stress and the growing emotional toll may fuel what our hospital and so many other health care providers are seeing. We’re bearing the brunt of a much angrier, more frustrated, and weary bunch. Patients, their families, and other caregivers have little patience or tolerance, and their short fuses can explode on the very people trying to care for them. https://hbr.org//frustrated-patients-are-making-health-car

We’re LOVING everyone’s proud COVID-19 vaccine photos! But remember when you take a post a photo of the certificate, it includes your full name and date of birth. That’s not good information to share on the internet! Please block out personal data before posting for identity security.
I am a board certified obgyn physician who is breastfeeding my infant. I understand the science of the mRNA COVID19 vaccine and I didn’t hesitate to get it tod...ay. And, Baby A is happy to share some of his milk with the scientist who will study it to better understand the full biology of COVID-19 vaccination and lactation. #crushcovid #thisisourshot #breastfeeding #vaccinationemancipation

Given the current wave’s persistence, hospitals are renewing contracts for travelling nurses at unprecedented rates, effectively taking them out of circulation. The number of extension requests tripled from summer to fall, Nazem said. The market is getting tighter and tighter. Hospitals are saying, ‘Let me hold on to whatever I can.’ https://www.newyorker.com//america-is-running-out-of-n/amp

The CDC found the coronavirus has struck 25- to 44-year-olds very hard: Their excess death rate is up 26.5 percent over previous years, the largest change for any age group.

Congratulations to Hadassah Lampert! Becoming a Nurse: . .... . The publishing company @simonandschuster has a series of books called Masters at Work. Journalists follow people in many different professions to write books about each one. Last summer Sonny Kleinfield, a former NYT journalist, spent 3 months shadowing me, immersed in the Lenox Hill Hospital ED writing a book about becoming a nurse. He followed me on each shift and was able to really depict a detailed picture of the environment we work in. This book is a testament to the amazing place that the Lenox Hill Hospital ED is as well as the important role nurses play in healthcare. It was an HONOR to be the subject of this book, as a representative for the nursing profession and Lenox Hill Hospital. I am so proud of the incredible work our team does. Working in this institution, which is really a second home and family for almost 10 years, has allowed for my professional and personal growth as an integral part of who I am today! It was awesome to be able to share my own personal journey in nursing throughout the pages of this book. This book was written pre-pandemic, however the care that we provide has not changed. Now more than ever it is so important for the world to truly see what it means to be a nurse! As the foundation of the hospital, nurses are patient advocates, eyes and ears for physicians, family when there is no one else (and even when there is). We are touched by each of our patients in some kind of way. I was blessed to find a profession that is not just a job, but a calling. Good, bad and ugly I would choose nursing over and over again. Save a life you are a hero, save 100 lives you are a nurse. Even the New England Journal of Medicine is calling out Trump’s dangerous behavior. When it comes to the response to the largest public health crisis of our time, our current political leaders have demonstrated that they are dangerously incompetent. We should not abet them and enable the deaths of thousands more Americans by allowing them to keep their jobs. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMe2029812
