The New York Section American Water Works Association is deeply saddened to announce that the New York’s Water Event rescheduled for July 7-9, 2020 in Saratoga Springs, NY is CANCELLED. The decision was not ours to make, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, its been cancelling events and ways of life for the entire world. The health and safety of all our attendees continues to be primary concern. We wish that we could bring everyone together for this signature event, which we know is a critical source of networking, business development, knowledge-sharing, and friendship for everyone in our waterworks family.

Shout out to the The Village of Voorheesville and all their Public Works professionals! Our unseen heros are charged with ensuring we have safe reliable drinking water, and also that wastewater is collected, treated, and safely returned to the environment. In addition to that, they plow the streets, take care of the parks, mow the lawns, and everything else the Village property and #infrastructure requires. The NYSAWWA Water Utility Council, with assistance from the Regulatory Review Committee and Section members, provided comments on EPA’s proposed revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule (LCRR). NYSAWWA supports EPA’s goal of minimizing, and ultimately eliminating exposure to lead in drinking water through use of properly implemented corrosion control treatment, education of the water consumer and elimination of materials that contribute lead to drinking water. Comments provide...d to EPA were to help better define the requirements of this very complex rule, and insure the resources are available to public water suppliers to properly implement the rule revisions. NYSAWWA feels strongly that the LCRR must include provisions for having State Primacy agencies lead initiatives in directly achieving goals of the rule such as: -Outreach and education for health care agencies - Outreach and education for schools and child care facilities -Obtaining technical expertise in corrosion control treatment to allow for support in making corrosion control treatment designations In addition the Council shared general concerns regarding the unprecedented additional workload the LCRR will impose on public water systems. https://nysawwa.org/
