"As we celebrate May of 2021, as Nurses Month, we would like to thank our dedicated, hardworking professional Nurses, who greatly contribute to the health care delivery system of our correctional facilities. Nursing is an honorable profession, which many consider to be the heart and soul of the health care system." - See Acting Commissioner Annucci’s full memo to nursing staff at the link below. https://doccs.ny.gov/nurses-month-2021-0 The Department is proud of our entire health care team and especially our nurses. A group of women at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility recently responded to an invitation from Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) to provide valentines to local veteran service organizations. Valentines for Vets was proposed to a number of housing units in the facility, including those in the Puppies Behind Bars Program. The women responded with enthusiasm at the opportunity to show their gratitude for the men and women who have served our country by making hand-made valentines and banners to brighten the day for dozens of local veterans.
With food pantries in need more than ever before, the EAP Committee at Sullivan Correctional Facility was able to raise $500 to benefit the St. Andrew's Church food pantry. A job well done in supporting the local community during this time of need!

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, themed Hispanics: Be Proud of your past and Embrace your Future, the Brooklyn Reentry team acknowledged the moment with a collage dedicated to several Hispanic Americans who have made great contributions through their work. The Brooklyn Re-Entry team also paid tribute to the Hispanic employees of the Brooklyn Area Office and the many contributions they have made and continue to make in Civil Service and in the community by hanging flags from 21 of the Spanish speaking countries that represent the rich culture and pride of DOCCS' staff.
Our staff continue to honor Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness this month. DOCCS' Queens/Long Island Regions marked the day with informational displays in a room decorated with pink and purple. The region observed a moment of silence in remembrance of those we’ve lost in the battle against Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence and to stand in solidarity with those still in the fight.
As we continue to honor Breast Cancer Awareness month, today we are highlighting DOCCS' Central New York Area Office staff for donning their pink for the cause!
Unfortunately, as a result of the significant increase in COVID-19 infections among the incarcerated population at Greene and Elmira Correctional Facilities, effective today, October 21, 2020, at 3pm, visitation at the two facilities will temporarily be suspended until further notice. We have also suspended all transfers in or out of the two facilities and programs at this time. The Department takes seriously its duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those that work and live in our correctional facilities. During this difficult time, the Department is appreciative of everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to face this virus together.
Today we'd like to highlight staff at our Elmira Area Office who recently donned pink outfits to show their support for breast cancer awareness!
Today we highlight the package room at Washington Correctional Facility for keeping staff and the incarcerated population safe by stopping two packages containing a number of cigars with a green leafy substance in the middle. Thanks for the great job!
Great job by security staff at Auburn Correctional Facility finding two folding knives hidden in the facility. Their actions help keep staff and the incarcerated population safe.
On Saturday, October 3, DOCCS community supervision staff participated in an Anti-Violence Town Hall and Reentry Resource Fair sponsored by the Bronx District Attorney’s office, which was held in Belmont Park. In addition to mask wearing and social distancing, rapid COVID-19 testing was offered at the event as well. Attendees of the event were able to meet with DOCCS staff in their community and had the opportunity to ask questions of interest to them. Staff were even approac...hed by a formerly incarcerated individual who now works for an organization that provides counseling for children of incarcerated parents. He expressed gratitude for the parole officers who supervised him, supported his efforts and provided encouragement. The event closed after those in attendance were addressed by DA Clark, NYPD Chief Juanita Holmes, anti-gang activist Antonio Hendrickson and Bronx County Reentry Task Force Coordinator Felix Gonzalez. Each one shared their personal story about growing up in the inner city and overcoming obstacles. DA Clark promised to continue to move through the Bronx with similar events to curb gun violence and to resolve the concerns raised by the members of the community.
