#flashbackfriday Member Spotlight of the Week! This adorable baby is Maxime Tulling, a PhD Student with the lab. The first language Maxime learned is Dutch but her first words (or sounds) are more unique than the rest of ours! Her parents, being avid Formula 1 fans, would watch races every Sunday. As a result, Maxime tells us, I mimicked the sound of a Ferrari race car to refer to formula 1 races much to the delight of her parents. These days with the lab, Maxime does rese...arch and heads her own studies and projects. She is currently investigating whether children understand utterances like If only pigs could fly or Maybe it's a penguin, which refer to possibilities outside the here-and-now. Maxime is in fact currently recruiting for this study and she is looking for 2 to 5 year olds to play some fun games with her online or in person (following strict Covid-19 guidelines, of course). If this sounds like a fun activity for any kiddos in your life, click the link in our bio to get started with Maxime! See more
Zoom is so fun! Join our friends at the Child Language Lab to play fun language games, just like Stego and his friends! Click the link in our bio to sign up!
#tbt Member Spotlight! Meet CLL’s fearless leader and Primary Investigator: Dr. Ailís Cournane! Ailís’ first language is English and she said her first word, Mama, when she was around 1 years old. As the youngest of four siblings, it was hard for her parents to catch what exactly her first words were and she describes her younger self as mostly really quiet, absorbed by watching the chaotic older brothers around me. Now at CLL, Ailís plays a pivotal role in leadershipd...eciding the science and areas of learning the lab will pursue, planning studies, and offering guidance and management to all the members of her team. She is actively involved in a myriad of projects at the moment and in her own words tells us, I'm writing up work with Dunja Veselinovi (PhD 2019, NYU) reporting a study we conducted in Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina) on 3-6-year-old's comprehension of modal sentences with the verb morati 'must' among other projects.
