As a farewell to my 25-year involvement with the MAC, I’d like to thank the following people who over the last 27 years have supported the MAC either by judging, dancing, or both. I know that I will be leaving out some people, but I’m concentrating on those people who have been with us most of the past 20+ years. Long time judges who have worked at the MAC for most if not all its past 27 years. Bill Davies - who has judged the MAC from its beginning and was the first Professi...Continue reading

Here is an additional question we have regarding the MAC: While we were supposedly granted sanctioning for MAC as an NQE on July 11th, the first time we heard about this was a month later on August 4th when we were told "The DSC had approved your event as an NQE immediately before we received notice that you were not interested in an NQE." It seems odd to us, that the DSC waited nearly 4 weeks before mentioning this, despite our receiving multiple emails from various DSC memb...ers on July 11th, 13th, 20th, 25th, 29th and August 2nd. These emails were all received after they are claiming to have granted the MAC NQE status. These emails included asking the chapter "Just want to confirm will the MAC be an NQE or registered event?" None of these emails stated that we had been granted NQE status and from these emails it seemed that the whole issue of being an NQE or registered event was still up in the air. On August 4th, we received another email saying "confirming that you do not want an NQE, but you are requesting the we reconsider your event as a REGISTERED event". On August 9th, we were told "Registered events were created to encourage the growth of new small competitions. With this category we "relaxed" some of our rules to help the small organizer by making the cost threshold lower. Most, if not all, of our registered events have fewer than 150 participants." The bylaws state "2.2.18 Registered Competition: is a competition that is generally local in nature and is not sanctioned but is registered with the USA Dance." It says "generally local in nature. There is no requirement for number of participants or that it must be local in nature. Merely that it is "generally" local in nature. If the MAC was given NQE status on July 11th, why the repeated questions about the status over the next several weeks? Why was running the MAC as a registered competition under consideration in July, but then suddenly not allowed on August 9th?

There will be a call at 3EST today, where USA Dance will attempt to answer questions as to why it dissolved the NY chapter board. The phone number is (630) 381-0695. USA Dance says you need to be a Greater NY chapter member to participate; however, the MAC affects all of us, so we encourage everyone to be on the call.

USA Dance has dissolved the New York Chapter board (who are in charge of running the MAC). Read more to see what this means for the MAC and for you: https://www.reddit.com//the_manhattan_amateur_classic_wil/

Dear members, the MAC 2019 will be an NQE, and it will be held next January. It will have new organizers that have no experience running the MAC, and who have refused any and all help from the old organizers. This was not our decision, but I’m sure it will be an exciting experience in one way or another. Thank you all for a wonderful 28 years of MAC!

Summer Sizzler registration is now open and will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday June 9 & 10, 2018 at Rogers Dance Center, 255 Hudson Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. New events this year including Senior V Pre-Bronze - Championship and Solo Follower and Leader events. Solo Leader and Follower events for Pre-Teen through Youth. ... Let’s get our juniors and youth off the to best start at an early age, by learning all the steps at each proficiency level. No need that a girl, not know the leader’s steps, or that a boy, and not know the follower’s steps. Know both and be a better dancer. Solo events are gender neutral, can sign up for both solo leader and solo follower. Dance at Summer Sizzler, qualify for Nationals 2019, and earn USA Dance ranking points at the Championship level. This event truly has something for everyone and is early enough in the cycle that if you improve and want to dance at a higher proficiency level at Nationals, there is still time to qualify at another NQE. You can find addition information at: http://njdancesportclassic.com/summer.html and go to: http://register.o2cm.com/?event=wsz to register. See you all on June 9 & 10, 2018 at Summer Sizzler.
