The school closure doesn’t mean OACES Culinary stops advocating for students. Congratulations to two students just placed in employment! Olya Lesiv from the Ukraine was placed at Palmer Food Services.... Purni Rai from India was placed at Oak Hill Country Club. I wish both of you the best. #have faith

Two OACES Culinary alumni were featured on the front page of the Democrat and Chronicle yesterday. Gloria Soldevila Ramos and Tyeasha Hendrix were placed in the Foodlink Fellowship program upon graduating. Two great role models for the program. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Derek King! Derek is extremely focused. Not many can manage commitments at home and school and start their own business. Derek came to OACES to learn techniques from a real chef and then use them to create his own style of food. I’m proud to see he is already busy promoting himself and planning future events. Not satisfied, he is about to add a food truck as well. Best wishes! This concludes our parking lot graduation ceremony today. It shows what matters the most- the will of people to not give in or give up.

Congratulations to Cesar Gonzalez! Cesar changed his life at OACES. The hardships of the past are now in the rear view mirror. He is a role model to those who want to change their lives. A compassionate person who mentored other students, Cesar displayed extraordinary dedication to his studies. Translating from Spanish to earn an A average and learning computer literacy at the same time is incredible. A talented artist, Cesar took what he learned at school and began selling cakes. My favorite is his invention of the flan cocho - half cake, half flan.

Congratulations to Kevin Mirabal! Kevin was a law school student in Venezuela when the country fell into chaos. He came to the United States and is currently on the path to U.S. citizenship. Learning English, a new culture, and conquering his fears while setting an example to others defines Kevin. He was superior in the kitchen and became an excellent student in the classroom. Kevin refused to be beaten. His excellent attendance was inspiring, especially during the winter, as he came to school frozen from a bike ride or walk. He will be an Executive Chef one day.

Congratulations to Rashaud McFadden! Rashaud is the new record holder of the highest test average in the 7 year history of the program (98.4)which has produced over 250 graduates. His goal is to become a Nutritionist or Dietician. He is currently applying to RIT and is setting an example to his children by his dedication to his future.

Congratulations Dane Nelson! Dane worked full time while in the program. He took what he learned at school and was promoted to a shift manager at his job after school. A dedicated father, student, and an example of perseverance; I wish him continued success!
