Surgeon Highlight: Tunnel placement during ACL surgery is critical! This European professional basketball player was having instability and pain years after ACL surgery. Picture 1 shows pre-op Xrays which demonstrate a femoral tunnel that is too far anterior and vertically oriented highlighted in red in picture 2. This can typically produce rotational instability of the knee with cutting and pivoting. The patient has since returned to professional basketball. Injections can be great nonsurgical option to address knee pain. For paitients with mild to moderate arthritis platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a biologic medication that has shown to be effective at improving pain and function. Here is a patient example provided by Dr. Brian Capogna (@drsportsny) one of our sports medicine specialists. This patient had no meniscus tears and only mild chondromalacia of her patella and medial femoral condyle. She is still very active and was inte...rested in a nonsurgical approach to keep her active working out and doing yoga. The injection requires a small blood draw to be performed which is processed in our centrifuge within minutes. The platletes are then isolated and injected into the knee. The video shows Dr. Capogna performing the injection under a local anesthetic with minimal discomfort. Surgeon Highlight: This patient was experiencing chronic and progressive neck and radiating arm pain with numbness and tingling sensations. The pain had progressed to the point where conservative measures such as NSAIDs, PT and an injection failed to relieve symptoms. MRI confirmed a large disc herniation with compression of the anterior spinal cord (Picture 1 - yellow arrow). Surgeon Highlight: Hip replacement surgery can range from simple to complex. This is a very complex case of bilateral Crowe 4 hip dysplasia. In this condition the hip socket never forms and the femur forms a pseudoacetabulum proximally under the iliac wing. Picture 1 shows the bilateral dislocated hips.
