We are saddened by the escalating violence and racially-motivated murders occurring within the United States. In particular, we want to address and call attention to the 3,800 hate incidents targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) that have been reported form cost to cost since March 2020. When I saw an 84 year old man violently shoved to the ground and died two days later, my heart was broken, and I am so outraged! Enough is enough. We condemn the horrific a...cts of hate and violence. We mourn the loss of life and grieve with the families that have been broken by this widespread racist, prejudice and bigotry hate crime. We acknowledge that Anti-Asian racism is not new. In fact, we are today in 2021 still having conversations we were having in 1881. It's infuriating, scary and disappointing at the same time. I challenge myself and my community to recognize the painful history of anti-Asian racism, to learn and understand the experience of AAPI individuals, and to use the courage and privilege we have to stand up to bigotry. We cannot allow racism to go unchecked. We cannot afford to stay silent, both for ourselves and generations to come. Be brave. Be loud. Say no to hate.
