New York State Guidance for Police Reform In June 2020, Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order to 500 jurisdictions with police departments that include new guidance for the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative. The Ocean Beach Police Department is included in the Governor’s order. The Governor proposed the Say Their Name Reform agenda to reduce inequality and reimagine the state’s Criminal Justice System. The order takes into account an ongoing pattern of excessive force against minority communities across the nation. Please fill put this survey so we, the Ocean Beach Police Department, can better serve the community. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JRHN9DZ

Tomorrow October 29th, 2020 the Fire Island Ferries have canceled the 6:30pm boat due to weather
Please note that Fire Island Ferries has cancelled the last 2 ferry runs tomorrow in anticipation of high winds, rain and flooding. Please stay in close contact with the Fire Island Ferries web site for updates and changes to the schedule.
Due to predicted gale force winds for our area this evening, Fire Island Ferries has made this adjustment. Their schedule is below. Please follow closely FIF website and Facebook page for updates and adjustments due to changing weather.
GOLF CART RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED UNTIL FRIDAY AS PER CHIEF HESSE
Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect as T/S approaches. Timing of the storm is currently estimated to be Tuesday, with the typical increasing winds during the day, rain bands and thunderstorms throughout the day and evening. Plan to take down those umbrellas, secure your garbage pails, and other outside items as strong gusts are expected! Stronger winds are forecasted for after sunset. Listen regularly for news and weather updates, stay in touch with Ferry Service web sites, and of course Ocean Beach Police Facebook page for more information. If you visit the oceanfront, please obey the lifeguards and any additional signage!
The Ocean Beach Police and Village as well as other emergency management groups are monitoring Hurricane Isaias and it's path. While it is very early in the forecasting game, and our experience with hurricanes on Fire Island is extensive, we wanted people to be aware of some general information that we have prepared. The current trend for this storm is passing Long Island to the south and east. What do we expect as the storm moves closer? Higher high tides (full moon this weekend), changing surf conditions, possible rain and wind bands as it passes. Please observe the lifeguard warnings over the weekend, and exercise caution while on the beach. Stay tuned to weather reports as well as our Facebook page. Hurricanes behave like trying to drive a car with no steering!
Trying this experiment out for this year. Remember NO RIDING on Bay Walk any time until AFTER Labor Day. Continue to use you mounted bike lights and bells at night. Ride in a respectable, cautious manner when encountering others. Pedestrians have the right-of-way!
Nothing new on this schedule but the range of dates. Same departure times for Bay Shore and Ocean Beach.
Fire Island Ferries has eliminated the last 2 ferries of the night. The 6:40pm out of Ocean Beach is the last departure this evening due to Tropical Storm Fay.
The senior cart has been taken out of service and stored due to the arriving Tropical Storm Fay. It will be returned to service later this weekend.
National Hurricane Center has posted the below graphic for the Tropical Storm Fay Friday - Sat. Be prepared for high rainfall amounts, building winds during the day Friday, coastal erosion. Secure your outside awnings, cabana flaps, and other deck & patio accessories. Regular checks of your weather web sites are encouraged. Be alert for arching wires and do not approach downed power lines.
Thank you to Dr. Luckow and Rachel’s Bakery for your support and kind words over the years! Happy 4th of July!
