We were honored and grateful to have Senator Todd Kaminsky at Oceanside High School yesterday to present Jennifer Wolfe with an official NYS Senate proclamation recognizing her as the NYS Teacher of the Year. In the first picture, Ms. Wolfe is flanked by Dr. Brendon Mitchell, OHS Principal, Dr. Harrington, OSD Superintendent, Senator Kaminsky and Mitch Bickman, OSD Director of Social Studies.

OHS students in Ms. Helen Dixon's Introduction to Elementary Education course collaborated on a project to design bulletin boards for the math department. Even though it was a competition, the students collaborated within and across teams to overcome the challenges posed by the hybrid model. "It's all about building connections," said Mrs. Dixon, a skill that will serve these potential future educators well. Students are shown with their bulletin boards (in some cases there are two photos to include the students on remote learning). We think they're all winners, but there was judging and "There's Magic In Every Equation" was #1.

While we were all on lockdown last spring, Ms. D'Aulisa & Ms. Menoutis' students at School #5 were keeping themselves busy, writing and submitting poems to the Poetic Power contest. Several students from each class are now published authors in the Creative Communication Spring 2020 anthology.
