Check out this antique (circa mid-18th century) Russian Orthodox Icon of Mother Mary and Baby Jesus. It was hand painted on a slab of wood by the egg-yolk tempera, a well-known technique used in Russian Orthodox iconography from ancient times. Once the wonderful religion icons were beautifully painted on the wood, this icon received a silver-plated copper top that is indicative of the traditional riza (oklad) designs. Measures 7x 5.3/4.
