Bookseller Aaron has another thoughtful post for your consideration The violence between Israel and Palestine that we see read provokes many powerful emotions, but depending on when a person starts remembering history, it can seem like certain parties are more or less to blame. The tensions around Palestine turn violent every few years and the videos are always shocking, but in order to get a real sense of why this problem is so intractable, it’s useful to zoom way, way ...out to the colonial carving up of the region by the British and the French in the Sykes-Picot Agreement and the British government’s the Balfour Declaration, both of which occurred over a century ago. Since then, claims to the territory have been fraught and we have a few books that can give context and background to understand why there’s so much accumulated anger and trauma felt by all, but perhaps some more than others. - A Line in the Sand goes into how the history of the Middle East has been shaped by the British and the French from the end of the Ottoman Empire in WWI until the formation of Israel. - Palestine by Joe Sacco is a great graphic novel by a journalist, literally illustrating the daily lives of Palestinians. -The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine extends a full century, from Sykes-Picuot until a couple years ago. #booksellersofinstagram #readtounderstand #inthenews #indiebookstore #ithaca

It's a beautiful day both outside and inside the bookshop -- and we're open until 7pm tonight! Come on by and say hi to everyone: Peanutbutter the fish, Wilbur the graduate/pig , Charlotte the spider (don't worry, she never leaves her web!)... and us! We'll help you pick out a book to read on the sunny days ahead, or a gift for the upcoming grad in your life. Wilbur has plenty of suggestions. #ithacany #openlate #indiebookstore #independentbookstore #bookstoresofinstagram
