This is the 150th Anniversary of the very first fire department that utilized fire hydrants. Our local inventor, Birdsill Holly, developed the Lockport Water Works right here at Old City Hall. Water was pumped from this site, throughout the city for indoor running water, and also for fire protection. Hydrant Hose Company No. 1 was incorporated on November 24th, 1865. It was the very first Hose Company in the world, and it was located at 11 Cottage Street, right here in Lockport!
