Some images from our fundraiser last week in Port Byron. Thank you to Cayuga County CIAO and Doug's Fish Fry and Doug's ToGo for supporting Old Erie Canal Heritage Park- Port Byron! We are truly grateful for our volunteers and to everyone who stopped by to support our Park. One supporter even drove 200 miles each way just for fried dough! Canal Society of New York State

A Cooking Challenge! The pages are from a well-used 1899 Italian cookbook that was found during the restoration of the Erie House at the Society's Port Byron Erie Canal Heritage Park. The 1899 date was just a few years after the Italian-immigrant Van Detto family opened the Erie House. Likely, the book was a source for many meals for family and visitors! Would someone like to translate... and maybe make the cookies??

Welcoming the Society's new Executive Director! Past presidents of the Society join Peter Van Detto and Maude in welcoming Cabryn Gurdo to the Society in a part...icularly timely photograph! Peter and Maude are especially grateful as Cabryn will be caring for their Erie House home at Port Byron. Though temporarily closed due to the pandemic, we hope to make it accessible soon! From left to right, Cabryn Gurdo, Dan Wiles, Maude, Peter Van Detto, Kal Wysokowski and Tom Grasso. See more

Erie Canal Heritage Park Opening Postponed! To best protect our volunteers and other staff and visitors, we're postponing our May 1st opening. Please remember to wash your hands but please don't wash your hands of us! We'll be back as soon as possible with new exhibits and old reminders of our canal history such as this wonderful view of the Park's Lock 52 back in the day!!
