Drum roll please.... today we are putting a very special mini horse in the spotlight: Bullseye! Bullseye was born in 2008 to Monica. He gave pony rides for several years and even transformed into a unicorn for a birthday party. Bullseye is retired from pony rides as he was diagnosed with Lyme disease this winter (but he is doing better after 3 months of antibiotics!) He has always been one of our favorites in the herd. Shhhh don’t tell the others! . Bullseye loves attention from everyone, and is one of the best behaved minis in the barn. He likes to have his picture taken and will often rest his head on the door and pose so you can get the perfect shot. (We are not doing pony rides anymore here at Old McDonald’s Farm due to the aging of our horses. Their comfort and health is most important to us!)

ATTENTION CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS! What better gift to buy for your family than delicious local beef? We have very few slots left for halves and quarters going for processing on December 23rd if you, friends or family are looking to fill your freezer. We charge $2.75 a pound hanging weight with halves being 400 pounds and quarters being 200 pounds respectively (figure 60% of that in take home beef after trim). A quarter cow will run about $670 including processing (costs may vary ...person to person based on cutting instructions and quarter/half size). A half will run about $1,300 including processing. We also have a few Butcher Boxes in stock (which are great gifts), these 40 pound boxes contain select cuts of steak, roasts and hamburger for $280. We currently have no ground beef available but will update you when that changes. Happy farm animal Friday from our pretty bird, Edward the emu! Edward and Edwina (they’re actually both boys) came to Old McDonald’s Farm about 19 months ago as babies. They rode in a dog carrier in the backseat of Ron’s truck from a farm in Florida to their home at Old McDonald’s Farm. They both love to be pet and talked to, but don’t get your nose too close, because they express their curiosity with pecks! Emus are native to Australia. When it is above 30 degrees, they go outside into their yard. When it’s colder, we keep them nice and bedded inside the barn.

On behalf of Robbins Family Grain, North Harbor Dairy, and Old McDonald’s Farm we would like to thank the community and our business partners for another extremely successful backpack program fundraiser. The staff of RFG, NHD, and OMF along with members from Sackets Harbor School and South Jefferson School worked aggressively to organize and create a COVID-19 friendly event and provide much needed support for this very important program. Superintendent Jennifer Gaffney from... SHCS explains the program: The backpack program sends groceries home with families in need to help them get through the weekends. The sustenance of this program is so important to our schools and to our communities. Healthy bodies and minds require nutritious meals. When kids do not have access to enough healthy food, it negatively impacts their health and an unhealthy cycle takes hold. We are honored to be part of such an important program and to work with so many businesses and companies that are willing to put their support behind this for our community. This year’s fundraiser in October raised over $20,000 in funds and nutritious food products that will go directly to families in need in our community and help sustain this program through another year of uncertainty.
