Olean Fireworks

After careful consideration the Firefighters Union has made the difficult decision to cancel the Fourth of July celebration. We join other communities in the area in making this choice for the safety of our residents, frontline workers and visitors the priority during this unprecedented time.

On behalf of the Olean Firefighters Fireworks committee, we would like to extend our condolences to the Connelly family. Jim Connelly passed away this morning. Jim was an avid supporter of the fireworks program when the Dempsey Club ran it and continued to support the Olean Firefighters each year with his grandkids by helping collect donations inside the stadium. Thank you for your service to the City of Olean and your dedication to the Fireworks Show!

I have come to the realization that you just can’t please everyone. We bust our butts each year to try to put on the best show with what money we have. That being said, I feel bad that the Nyce Guys were not able to perform tonight. You WILL be performing next year for sure! We look forward to your music. Thank you for understanding. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans. Dave and I made a joint decision to remove everyone from the stadium for their safety. Someone gett...ing struck by lightning would not have made for a good night. However, we are EXTREMELY LUCKY that the storm did not shift towards Olean. People still complained about us moving everyone out. Oh well. I thought the band did an excellent job. They played some great music. The food and drink......OUTSTANDING!! The lines were huge once people started coming into the stadium. Just looking at the donation barrel it’s down, it’s been like this for the last 5-7 years. People walk in the stadium and don’t drop a penny into the bucket....but you have $70 worth of food and drink from the local convenient store (which by the way we see NONE of that money from them). The show itself was fantastic. Some people complained about our music section. The way I look at it, 9/11 was our second Independence Day! We rose up after we were attacked and came back with a vengeance! You can’t please everyone. For the most part it seems to have gone over fairly well, even with the weather issues. We made it work. Thank you to all of our vendors, donation collectors, businesses that hosted fire crackers, made donations for the hotdog sale and thank you to everyone that came out last night to celebrate our Independence Day! How about the Hungry Burro! New to this years fireworks, and the talk is they are AMAZING!! Fowler’s funnel cakes and lemonade are always a crowd favorite!!! We can’t thank these vendors enough for participating with us this year!

Lots of room! Come on down for music, food and fun! Fireworks will go off anywhere from 930-1000!

How about supporting Fowler’s Taffy? The best taffy, candy apples and cotton candy around!
