During the months of May and June we celebrate those making their First Communion or entering into the Sacrament of Matrimony. We have a special gift that will let others you care about them - a gift of prayer. Each card contains a powerful gift of prayer and remembrances in Special Masses in the OLV National Shrine & Basilica. If you would like to request any of our newly designed Golden Treasury cards for your loved ones please click the following link: https://www.olvcharities.org/golden-treasury-cards

Today’s Scripture readings contain a loving and tender message for us. Jesus is concerned about us and wants to assure us that he will always be with us. Because of his great love for us, he longs that we will be safe and secure in God’s love and care. And Jesus desires that we will share his peace, joy and love with the world. Let us pray... Risen One, may I be ever more mindful of your loving presence within me and may I reveal that presence to a weary world.... Resurrected One, send me forth as a disciple of your unwavering love, a messenger of your unlimited joy and a bearer of your peace. As I await the coming of your Spirit, I ask this in your holy name. Amen. To submit your prayer intentions, please click the following link and we will remember you in our prayers: https://bit.ly/2vrd6Ak

On this day in 1874, Nelson Baker, a 32-year old seminarian, boarded the S.S. Periere to begin a pilgrimage to Europe. He arrived in Paris on May 28, 1874, and accompanied his fellow pilgrims to a church by the name of Notre Dame des Victoires. Although the group later visited sites such as Lourdes, the tombs of the Apostles in Rome, and St. Peter’s, Nelson's mind kept returning to the wonderful shrine in Paris bearing the name of Our Lady. Even before his return to the U.S., he was heard saying: "From now on, I shall devote my entire life to your service. I shall devote all my thoughts and actions to your name. I will spread the devotion of Our Lady of Victory throughout America."

Did you know... In May of 1986, a proposal was submitted to Bishop Edward Head, the Bishop for the Diocese of Buffalo at that time, to resurrect the Cause for Canonization by Msgr. Robert Wurtz, then Pastor of OLV National Shrine & Basilica . We continue Msgr. Wurtz's efforts through the Father Baker Guild which supports the Cause for Canonization.
