Today's post is about "how to NOT get impressed by a headline". We live in a world where we have easy access to so much information, and with that so much misleading information. Nutrition is just one field I know for a fact, because that's my area of expertise, were misinformation is skyrocketing. Every day you can find information that will either encourage or deter you from following this diet or the other. You can easily find support for whatever you wish to find. Coffee...Continue reading

There is a relatively new diagnosis in the nutrition/eating disorder field: Pregorexia, aka anorexia while pregnant. In a society that is so focused on women’s weight (men get more leeway) , we already have women who don’t eat enough to support the pregnancy. While the days of eating for two are long gone, and rightfully so, there are not enough studies to show what risk the babies and mother places when mother doesn’t eat enough during pregnancy. This study, is even more dengerous in that direction.

I love coffee. I drink it every morning or you'll have no one to talk to... LOL. Not that serious but it does help me wake up. Whether it is the ritual that I got used to throughout the years, or I am one of those who are sensitive to it, I enjoy it, every morning, two cups. Since I was raised in a coffee-drinking culture, I am quit finicky about my coffee. It must be strong. I will not go into which coffee brands I like and which not, mostly because I like my home brewed,... Greek/Turkish/ Arab/ Israeli type or a simple instant coffee (hot or cold brew in the summer), either way it must be strong. As a clinician I always knew that the Turkish/Arab/Greek/Israeli coffee is healthier than the instant or brewed ones. It contains some type of phenols/antioxidant that instant coffee lose in the process. Regardless, also as a Registered Dietitian, I was never one of those that go for "avoid this avoid that". Even with the recommendations during pregnancy.... I drank coffee. And look at the Greek and italian women, try tell them not to have their espresso or Greek coffee for 9 months. So I was happy to see this this study. Enjoy your coffee. And if you don't like coffee... that's ok too. It doesn't mean you must start now. I will link below more information about the caffeine content of different kind of coffees so you know what you are getting (give and take). And please don't forget that many soft drinks and soda contain caffeine too. You might be surprise at some. See more
