Happy Easter from my family to yours!
I don’t know who this quote is by, but as a former professional dancer, this resonated with me heavily. In my 20’s I ignored my body, which was stupid because it was my livelihood. I’d feel back pain and ignore it. I’d get neck pain and rub some icy hot on it. My hip would ache after rehearsal and I would walk it off. I was stupid and I paid for it. To this day, the worst performance I danced was a NJ social in which I danced with horrible back pain and didn’t tell anyone -... I performed anyway. What a DISASTER. I was so embarrassed. I didn’t want let anyone down by seeming weak, and yet I let my whole company through a terrible performance. After that, I decided to INVEST in my body. I went to a physical therapy clinic that specialized in dancers. I started cross training taking pilates and yoga. I took a bootcamp nutrition class to learn how to fuel my body. I also learned to rest. All those areas taught me something that I still use to this day to keep my body going despite not dancing professionally anymore. Any while I miss it. I’m on the other side now, helping dancers stay physically healthy making sure every dance and every performance is pain free and their absolute best. If you have questions about your aches and pains, please don’t ignore them. Don’t wait until you can’t dance anymore. DM me and we can chat. And if I can’t help you, I can point you to someone who can. #on2physicaltherapy #getbacktodance #LatinaPT #salsanyc #salsaon2

Treating @zafiredancecompany members from head to toe -because the body is all interconnected and you can’t look at a shoulder without assessing the ankles. These amazing #salsadancers are investing in their bodies and making sure they’ll be able to perform at the highest level without worrying about getting hurt or dancing through pain. Want to know more about how I do this? Send me a message and we can talk about your issues.
In my 20’s, I was the second one. I needed to dance. It was my life - literally. I woke up took dance classes, worked in a dance company, then taught classes, then rehearsed to perform on the weekend. And while I don’t regret it, because it took me places that until then I only dreamed about, it took a toll on other parts of my life. My friends were all dance friends - I lost touch with many of my college peeps. My family barely saw me. My health, was not a priority (which is crazy because my body was my livelihood ) I’ve since learned to balance all this out. My family sees a lot more of me. I’ve reconnected with old friends, and my physical well being is non-negotiable. I don’t absolutely need to dance anymore (although I do miss it) but when this world returns to normal, I can’t wait to go back out there.
