Little Misty Copeland's Ten Favorite Children's Books... We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to the Grand family: Little Grand Books. Like One Grand, Little Grand taps an exciting roster of curators, such as the dancer Misty Copeland (https://onegrandbooks.com/s/curators/dancer/misty-copeland/) , to recommend children’s books that they’ve either loved as children or that they treasure reading with their own. Some are classics. Some are unjustly forgotten. Some are unfairly little known. All provide insight and hours of happy reading. Little Grand is a collaboration between One Grand Books and children's book author Joshua David Stein, the former editor-at-large of Fatherly, a parenting website. As a father of two young boys in New York, Stein has seen -- and mourned -- the closing of many of that city's children’s bookstores like Stories Bookshop and Storylab in Brooklyn and Bank Street Books in Manhattan. The fact is, he says, that children -- and their parents -- are hungrier than ever for a well-curated selection of children’s books. Grand Journal's associate editor Aaron Fai has been busy! In November alone he read 50 books (yes, you read that correctly) to help him determine which books warranted a place on our list of the Ten Best Reads of 2020. It's a grand selection that includes a political novel from Palestine, some marvelously apt essays on the meanings of disasters, an epic translation of a Chinese classical poet Tu Fu, and some much-needed escapism. Our marathon reading of Beowulf, based on a new translation by Maria Dahvana Headley, wraps up on Christmas Eve, with the translator closing out this epic tale.
