Oneida Community Cats Committee had 3 targeted trapping dates in November. We have successfully trapped 4 adult cats and 3 kittens. We surrendered the three kittens to Finnland's Fosters Cat Rescue and Adoption Center. Three adults were spayed/neutered and vaccinated for Rabies and released. We have trapped one adult male cat the we believe could be someones pet. Our volunteers have cared for it over the last 24 hours and we have now turned it over to Finnland's Fosters to be cared for during the time we locate the owner. We will post his picture in a follow-up post.

Our group has been meeting monthly to develop a safe and humane way to address the number of "Community Cat" colonies in our city. After extensive research and speaking to existing groups that have found success with the same issues we have put together the first phase of a plan that we believe will be best for both the Community Cats, property owners and members in the community that feed and care for these cats. Starting this month we have moved forward with a TRAP-NEUTER... & RETURN ( TNR ) program using targeted trappings in individual identified colonies. We were able to secure limited funding from the City to start this for 2021. Our volunteers have been working hard to find additional funding, build relationships with local Veterinarians for low cost spay & neuters, identify colonies confidentially and build trusting relationships with both property owners and members in the community that feed and care for these Community Cats. We are proud to announce our first successful run of our TNR program. With one of our partnerships with a local Veterinarian- Village Veterinary Hospital, P.C. we have secured reduced rates for spay & neuters and are making sure every adult cat we catch gets a rabies vaccine. We are proud of the work we have put into this phase. We want to thank everyone that has supported all of the efforts that have helped us get to this point. There will be a lot of great stuff going on in Oneida this weekend. So plan a bike trip on the Oneida Rail Trail to visit the Madison County Craft Festival or jump in the car and head down to the Oneida Library to buy some Mums at our Annual Fundraiser Sale for the Oneida Improvement Committee and help support their committees and projects like the Oneida Community Cats Committee. #OneidaStrong #SupportCommunity
