Impact of Corrupt Buffalo Billion Spreads to Utica --- Another Grand Political Announcement Fails to Deliver New York--December 16th...Governor Cuomo is delivering a fat lump of coal to Upstate New Yorkers this Christmas as his corrupt Buffalo Billion claimed its first casualty with the decision of Austrian Chip maker AMS to pull out of the Utica chip factory project, today charged New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox. In April, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, led by the indicted Alain Kaloyeros, broke ground on a 360,000-square-foot semiconductor chip fabrication plant that was to become the home to Austria-based AMS and thousands of jobs. AMS had pledged to invest $2 billion, promised to employ about 1,500 workers and was expected to be operational by the end of 2017. Last year's state budget included $585 million to support Nano Utica and Phase I construction of the AMS fab, to operate under a 20-year lease. Chairman Cox cited this project as the latest in a string of grand, big-ticket political announcements, such as the November 2013 $1.725 Buffalo Billion announcement and Start-Up NY promising Valutek's relocation from Arizona, that failed to deliver in the light of day. According to a story published today by the Swiss-based publication Finanz und Wirtschaft headlined "AMS Ends US Adventure," AMS management informed employees it is no longer pursuing the factory "due to delays." In the memo from management, AMS cites ""time constraints were not met, and all efforts by New York State and AMS officials to find a solution were 'not satisfactory.' "Let's be clear: this decision is the direct result of the corruption that has engulfed the Cuomo Administration and the consequences of having a Governor who is distracted by scandal," said Chairman Cox. "New York's business climate is the laughing stock of the country and the Governor's house of cards is collapsing before our eyes. What New York needs is a leader who can deliver real economic reforms, not just gimmicks and headlines." Concluded Cox, "Governor Cuomo has failed the people of Mohawk Valley and all of Upstate New York. They cannot forget his trail of broken promises."
