Today the daytime crew had the opportunity to work on extended hoseline operations and advancement. Our first due area and neighboring jurisdictions have numerous apartment buildings as well as other large structures that pose unique challenges.

This morning drill was on stabilization for different situations. The first car was a blue cross over we utilized step chocks and battery powered spreader to li...ft the car up enough to slide the step chocks in under the uni body of the car. By Stabilising both Sides of the vehicle we ensure that eze the car is being worked on with other tools it does not move back-and-forth possibly causing the patient on distress for further injury. The 2nd and 3rd vehicles were possible rollover vehicles. One on its side and one on its roof the 1st on its side needed to be stabilised both from the top side in the bottom side to keep it from rolling as the vehicle would be cut which would change the dynamics and the centre of balance for the vehicle. The 3rd and final scenario we stabilised a car on its roof from the rear end has this would possibly be the only access to a patient in a roll over such as this. Would like to thank Chief Natoli for providing guidance and for providing a great hands on drill. Stabilisation at car accidents can be dynamic and fluid and change the situation changes. See more

Update: Unfortunately, Glen Carbon FPD retracted their offer to purchase the ladder truck. Their board chose to refurbish their current ladder truck instead. Both of the Baldwinsville Ladder trucks, Ladder 2 & 3, are still listed for sale.

Just a reminder for tomorrow night we will be at our station from 6 pm till 8 pm with candy bags, cider, coffee and also we will have crews going around the nei...ghborhood to make sure everyone is safe. Also we will have someone at the crosswalk at Tops to help you all cross the road. Please make sure you all wear masks and obey the 6 foot rule. And be safe out there. See more
