This week has been declared Winter Weather Awareness Week in New York State by the National Weather Service offices that serve the state. The National Weather Service will be issuing daily public information statements and social media posts highlighting winter safety tips and hazards all week. This is the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) video that compares a room and contents fire between one furnished with natural materials vs synthetics. It is an excellent visualizaion of how fast a fire can reach the flashover state in a room with synthetic furnishings and, regardless of the materials in a room, how important it is for families to have working smoke and CO detectors.
