Since tendons are most commonly damaged by a repeated motion, you should try to avoid making the exact same movements over and over again.
Typically patients tear their ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, while exercising or playing sports. Studies suggest that upwards of 80% of ACL tears are non-contact injuries. Landing awkwardly or on an uneven surface can easily cause a ligament tear.
The fibrous tissue known as cartilage covers the bone surface and ensures that the bones do not directly rub against one another. Some joints do move, and some do not. For example skull joints do not move, while synovial joints do move, comprise most of the body’s joints, are typically located in the limbs, and contain synovial fluid, which enables movement.
Not only are fractures painful and prevent movement, but there are other indications that the injury may be more serious. These include swelling and tenderness around the injury, bruising, and deformity (where the limb looks out of place).
A discectomy is a surgical procedure that is performed to remove a damaged portion of a herniated disk in the spine. When left untreated a herniated disk can irritate or compress nearby nerves, causing pain, numbness, and weakness.
During a typical knee arthroscopy, a tiny fiberoptic camera is placed inside the injured joint via a 1/8-inch incision. This camera allows the surgeon to view the damaged area and prevents the patient from living with a large scar on their knee.
One out of every 100,000 full-time workers develops tendinitis due to repetitive motions performed on the job. Wrist and hand tendinitis are among the most common forms, and they also account for up to 50% of all sports related injuries.
Reconstructive knee surgery, such as an anterior cruciate ligament repair, is one of the most common types of arthroscopic surgeries in the country. There were 80,000 ACL procedures in the U.S. in 2010, according to Time Magazine.
Orthopedists deal with two types of osteoarthritis: primary and secondary. Primary osteoarthritis develops over time, although some people experience this type of osteoarthritis earlier than others.
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson tore his anterior cruciate ligament on December 24th, 2011. He had arthroscopic surgery six days later and ended up returning to the field for week one of the 2012 season. Peterson rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns while debuting his new ACL in the first game he played after the injury.
In order to avoid back injury when lifting a heavy object, it’s important that you never twist your spine. Rather, keep your feet shoulder-width apart and pivot them to change directions.
We understand how difficult it can be determine the exact source of pain in your back. While your chiropractor may be able to help with the acute pain that comes from being out of alignment, you may need to see us when their adjustments simply aren’t helping.
