Dear NYU Steinhardt Community, As we begin Black History Month and MLK Week at NYU, an important time to recognize the achievements of Black people, I want to c...all your attention to a series of opportunities this month to celebrate and reflect on Black history, struggle, and accomplishment. A terrific team across NYU Steinhardt collaborated to present a slate of events that reflect much of what our School contributes to these important conversations and calls to action. In addition, I want to recognize Noel S. Anderson and Phil Galdston for winning the 2021 NYU Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award. This award recognizes outstanding faculty who exemplify the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through teaching excellence, leadership, social justice activism, and community building. These faculty make a positive impact within the classroom and in the greater NYU community. Please join me in congratulating Noel and Phil, and join them at the virtual awards ceremony tomorrow. I also want to specifically thank our Black students, faculty, administrators, and staff for your leadership, mentorship, scholarship, and resilience. Together, our community has much work to do to advance racial equity and justice. In the words of our distinguished alumna Dorothy Height (BA '33, MA '35, HON '75): "We use words like diversity, but that can be a very good cover-over. It is how people relate to one another that makes the difference. If we don't acknowledge that racism still exists, if we don't acknowledge that sexism still exists, we will never be able to eliminate them. We will have to make diversity more than a slogan." NYU Steinhardt is committed to taking action and working to advance racial justice and equity. Please visit the Office of Equity, Belonging, and Community Action to learn more about our efforts to lead this charge at our School and in our community. Jack H. Knott, Dean Gale and Ira Drukier Chair

Dear NYU OT Community, As we head towards the Thanksgiving holiday, I write to you with a great deal of gratitude. As an immigrant living in NYC for the past 20 years, it took me some time to understand and embrace the meaning of this holiday. I love what it represents to me time spent with family and friends, and a moment in time to stop and reflect on what I should be thankful for. There is so much to be thankful for, even this year. All of us: students, faculty, staff m...embers, and families, were deeply affected by this past year's events. And yet, we still have a lot to be thankful for. We can thank our families, the healthcare communities we are part of, the colleagues we work with, and most of all, you our students who showed such a resiliency and supportive community during this time. THANK YOU. To all of you our amazing students, faculty, administrators, and staff, enjoy this long weekend. Take a day or two to reflect and acknowledge all of the good you have done and achieved, especially during these challenging times. I/ we look forward to seeing you next week virtually and (hopefully) in-person in the near future. Take care of each other and be well. - Interim Chair Yael Goverover

Our OTD students ended Dr. Gentile's Leadership in Occupational Therapy Course by presenting action plans for critical OT Leadership issues. Presentations covered a wide variety of topics ranging from the Lack of OTs in Hospital "C" Suite Positions, to Leadership Approaches for Improving the Use of Evidence Based Practice. We can't wait to see what this talented group of future OT Leaders does next!
