Don’t forget to register for Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society’s event Solid Waste, Recycling & Composting How Our Counties are Working to R...educe Carbon happening TONIGHT, Tuesday, February 16th at 7pm. This program will look at the work being done by the Otsego County Planning and Solid Waste Department and Delaware County Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department featuring our very own Solid Waste Coordinator ,Tyson Robb. We all know that recycling is important, but do we know exactly why? What happens to the recyclable material once you put it in the recycling bin? What food composting options are available in the region and why is it important to compost? Does trash contribute to climate change (hint-yes!)? What legislation is being introduced at the state and local level to improve recycling, composting, and solid waste management generally? Our single-stream recycling program accepts glass items (such as condiment, salsa and pickle jars) but be sure to check our website for more specifics on what we accept. Remember, if you bring your recycling directly to the Cooperstown or Oneonta transfer stations, you can place the glass directly in the glass recycling bin. Before throwing glass items away, can you think of a creative way to reuse them? From storage and organization to arts and crafts, bottles and jars have almost infinite uses around the home or office. Is there somewhere you can donate unwanted household glass items such as cookware and glassware (such as the Arc Otsego ReUse Store in Oneonta)?
