COVID Vaccine Update January 31, 2021 COVID 19 Vaccine Update... OCDOH received the first shipment of vaccine the week of January 4, 2021. 500 doses were received with the direction to target the 1b population. Since that first shipment we have received an additional 200 doses with further restrictions that these doses had to be provided to the 1b eligible workers. Direction came from NYSDOH that the Otsego County DOH could not vaccinate the 65+ population. The week of January 25th OCDOH received a ONE time allotment of 200 doses to be provided to the 65+ population. Late in the afternoon January 29th we received an additional 100 doses allotted for the 1b eligible workers. As of today we have vaccinated 870 individuals, we currently have 130 doses on hand. We do NOT expect to receive any further allotments for the 65+ population. The NYSDOH is working with pharmacies to get on board to begin vaccinating this population. This system of the pharmacies vaccinating only those in the 65+ population is intended to reduce competition for vaccine for the senior population. Additional vaccine clinics will be scheduled for the 1b eligible workers. These clinics will be directly targeted to those eligible for the vaccine. See the OCDOH website for a list of 1b eligible workers that the OCDOH can vaccinate. Please be patient, we know there is not enough vaccine for everyone that needs it. Continue to practice all prevention measures to reduce your risk of COVID 19.

While the vaccination process is underway, every New Yorker should wear a mask, social distance and avoid small and large gatherings. Two vaccines have been authorized by the FDA and approved by New York State’s independent COVID-19 Clinical Advisory Task Force: One that was developed by Pfizer and BioNTech and another that was developed by Moderna. Both vaccines require two doses. As of January 11, 2021, New Yorkers in Phase 1a and segments of Phase 1b are eligible for the vaccines. ALL VACCINATIONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Eligible groups include doctors, nurses and health care workers, people age 75 and over, first responders, teachers, public transit workers, grocery store workers and public safety workers. Residents and staff at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities will continue to be vaccinated through a federal program, which the state is providing resources to accelerate. As vaccine providers receive vaccine, clinics will be scheduled and you will be able to make an appointment to receive the vaccine.
