PLEASE VOTE FOR CHENANGO!!! It's so easy. Just click on the link and then scroll down to vote.... The Chenango County Historical Society is competing against three other regional museums to host this June's Creativity Incubator. Sponsored by NYSCA and the Greater Hudson Heritage Network, this mini-conference will bring together museum professionals from throughout the state to workshop ways to enhance creativity at museums. In these days of changing demographics, shrinking at...tendance, tightened budgets, increased competition, and exponential growth of technology & social media, institutions need to keep their exhibitions fresh, their work relevant, and take bold steps to keep up with the times. As a Creativity Incubator Host, CCHS would welcome around 40 attendees to explore and workshop our campus, collections, exhibitions, and programs. It is an incredible opportunity to increase our presence within the region, and to gather valuable insights into our collections and methods of presentation. The Creativity Incubator, a NYSHA/GHHN Partnership Program, is made possible with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Here's the link to go and vote: http://www.greaterhudson.org/creativity-incubator.html Last I looked CCHS was only at 42% - they really need your vote!!! Best wishes, Jeanie Petersen Oxford Historical Society

DON'T MISS THIS GREAT PRESENTATION! Tuesday, October 3, at 7 p.m., the Oxford Historical Society (OHS) is presenting A History of the Oxford Lions and Rotary Clubs: Two Service Groups that Have Enriched Oxford's Community Life! in the Community Room of the Oxford Memorial Library, located at 8 Fort Hill Park in Oxford. All are invited. Join us for a look back at how the selfless volunteers from these two organizations have improved our way of life over decades, from youth ...programs, education, health, parks, and a whole lot more. Representatives from both groups will be guest speakers sharing their important history of giving back to the community. To enrich the program, there will be photos and memorabilia displayed and members of the audience will be invited to share their recollections. This program is sure to surprise younger Oxonians and others from the surrounding area, about the great improvements made in Oxford at least 50 years ago. Were there many volunteers and did everyone participate in one group or the other? What sort of fundraisers did they used to have and what big changes did they make? What are they doing for Oxford today? Answers to these questions and lots of great stories of cooperation, friendship and rewarding accomplishments will be shared! If you ever considered joining the Oxford Lions or Rotary Clubs, don't miss this program. And, if you have memories about either of the clubs, you are especially invited as audience members are encouraged to share stories at the end. Questions and conversations will accompany the refreshments following the program. It will be an informing and inspirational evening. Oxford Historical Society’s annual Band Concert & Ice Cream SocialThursday! OXFORD It’s time again for one of Oxford’s great annual summer traditions, the Oxford Historical Society’s (OHS) Ice Cream Social and Concert! The Oxford Community Band's Summer Concert Series will be held Thursday, August 10, at 7:00 p.m. outside at the OHS Depot-Museum. All are welcome to share in this wonderful social event of the season. There will be music, ice-cream, a raffle, and displays of... Oxford memorabilia, the permanent Ingersoll Civil War Collection, and railroad paraphernalia on exhibit as well. The Oxford Community Band will set up outdoors, under the overhang of the authentic D. L. & W. railroad depot, originally built one hundred years ago, at 1 Depot Street. OHS President and Society Officers anticipate being host to over 100 community members in attendance for this pleasurable hour of music, under the direction of Francis Wilcox. They will play marches, show tunes, overtures and novelty selections for the enjoyment of the Oxford community. As is the tradition with this summer performance, it will be accompanied by delicious ice-cream generously provided by Steve and Sherry Behe, sold at the olde fashioned price of five cents a bowl. Visiting Oxford Band alumni are encouraged to make themselves known to the band or bring an instrument and sit in. As always, the performance is FREE of charge. The History Museum’s doors will be open to view an exhibit of old railroad items as well as enlarged old photographs of the depot. Vintage photos of the Oxford Academy Marching Band will also be displayed. So pack up a blanket or folding chair so you can relax and enjoy this evening of music, ice cream, history and fun on the Depot’s lawn in comfort. Don’t forget to get your tickets for a surprise raffle drawing. Oxford Historical Society is a private, non-profit educational and cultural organization. The Depot-Museum is open Thursdays, thru Oct. 5, from 1 - 3 p.m. To read more about the OHS, visit: Museum.OxfordNY.com .
