The Longest Night Service will be live-streamed from the sanctuary tonight at 6:00 p.m. and will also be available to view anytime after that. This short, meditative service will be a time to pray and lament, to mourn losses and griefs, and to let the tears flow for the hurting places in our own lives, in our country, and in our world. We invite you to gather a candle and something to light it as you join the service.

During this last week of the election, we would like to share daily prayers for the leaders and citizens of our nation. These prayers come from the Book of Common Worship. For State and Local Governments: Almighty God, bless those who hold office... in the government of this city and state, that they may do their work in a spirit of wisdom, kindness, and justice. Help them use their authority to serve faithfully and to promote the general welfare; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. See more

"Jesus doesn’t land in Rome in the center of power. He was born in a manger in Bethlehem and then raised in Nazareth small fringe towns. Similarly, right now, he would be with the poor, whatever that means, with folks on the street. Jesus was essentially homeless. How much money did Jesus carry around? None. Judas had the money."

The trauma of living within walls is enough, but I have children, and I want a bright, beautiful future for them. I don’t think saving my life is something I should be punished for.

As we enter this last week of the election, we would like to share daily prayers for the leaders and citizens of our nation. These prayers come from the Book of Common Worship. At the Time of an Election: Under your law we live, great God, and by your will we govern ourselves.... Help us as good citizens to respect neighbors whose views differ from ours, so that without partisan anger, we may work out issues that divide us, and elect candidates to serve the common welfare; through Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen. See more

"Answers included responses like: Jesus was political; your vote matters; shine your light into the political landscape; remember who and whose you are; vote with the values of the kindom; make sure your vote puts love into the world; love your neighbor; we need leaders with compassion; and then the simple one word response: vote."

"In 1918, the Rev. Francis J. Grimké, an African American pastor of Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., preached Jesus’ command to 'love our neighbors' as a call to further the work of racial justice, noting that 'race prejudice, colorphobia, runs directly counter' to Jesus’ command."

A prayer as I put on my mask: Creator, as I prepare to go into the world, help me to see the sacrament in the wearing of this cloth... let it be "an outward sign of an inward grace" a tangible and visible way of living love for my neighbors, as I love myself. Christ, since my lips will be covered, uncover my heart, that people would see my smile in the crinkles around my eyes. Since my voice may be muffled, help me to speak clearly, not only with my words, but with my actions. Holy Spirit, As the elastic touches my ears, remind me to listen carefully and full of care to all those I meet. May this simple piece of cloth be shield and banner, and each breath that it holds, be filled with your love. In your Name and in that love, I pray. Amen Rev. "The United States ranks 114th in voter participation in recognized democracies around the world. In recent years, only 55 percent of eligible voters have participated in U.S. presidential elections, while well under half participate in non-presidential elections."

"A grand jury decision not to charge any of the three officers with Taylor’s death 'raises questions for all of us: Where is justice and how might people of faith cultivate a theology of liberation when home remains a dangerous place?'"
