Fun Fact: Singing, humming, or chanting can actually reduce stress. When you sing , hum, or chant, you activate your vagus nerve which is a really long nerve that starts at your brain stem. This nerve makes up 80% of the parasympathetic nervous system. This is the system responsible for us being able to rest and digest. Aside from making you really popular at parties, belting out a tune can actually bring a sense of calm to the body. So what are you waiting for? Crank up t...he music, and sing your heart out! It might be the stress reducer you need! #womenempowerment #womensupportingwomen

Physical health is just as important as mental health. As a clinician, I practice what I preach regarding self-care and healthy coping skills. I run and exercise with weights at home as a form of self-care. I have set a goal for myself to accomplish running my first 5k. It’s about small baby steps to achieve any goal. Being mindful of the mind and body connection is key. ... Regardless of the weather, I am committed to getting outside and running; as I have set a goal for myself, and I will achieve it. For anyone unsure about what goals, where to start, and wanting to improve their physical health; here are my suggestions: -Start with a short walk as many times a week as possible, even if it is once a week. -Start small and work towards a realistic goal. You can do it! ~Stacy Greenberg LMHC https://passageswomen.com/bvsd/stacy-greenberg-lmhc/

In regards to healthier communication with your partner..... Take time to find out what your partner thinks, how they feel, and what goes on in their world. The key to connectedness is asking questions, be curious and WANT to know what they experience in their everyday life. #couplescounseling #womensupportingwomen

If you don’t take care of yourself, you can experience burnout, stress, fatigue, reduced mental effectiveness, health problems, anxiety, frustration, inability to sleep, (and even death). ... It is time to let go of guilty, and take care of yourself first. It’s time to let go of the guilt and take care of yourself by: Getting enough rest Exercising regularly Eating vegetables & fruit Having your regular physicals Going to the doctor when you need treatment Taking supplements Spending time every day on a renewal activity, e.g.: Sitting quietly for at least 10 minutes Meditating Watching humming birds or squirrels in the trees Listening to uplifting music Reading an inspiring book Writing in your journal Creating gratitude list Walking on the beach Engaging in a hobby Cutting down your stress by laughing: Reading comics Buying a joke of the day calendar Watching a funny T.V. show Watching a comedy special Playing a game with your family Remember, it isn’t selfish to take care of yourself, it’s necessary!

Postpartum depression isn’t the only maternal mental health disorder. There are a range of mental health conditions including depression, general anxiety, OCD, psychosis and PTSD. This year because of the COVID crisis more mothers are expected to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Symptoms include: being hypervigilant (abnormally alert to potential danger), avoidance of anything that reminds the mother of the traumatic event, re-experiencing the traumatic ...event (in flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive memories), and feeling depressed and/or guilty.
