Tonight may lead to our first slick driving of the year. Please take into consideration your speed and stopping distance. This is also a good time to stock your vehicle with your winter supplies if you haven’t done so yet. Check your tires and make sure they have tread and are properly inflated. Most importantly slow and steady gets you to where you need to go and plenty of extra space gives you time to react and stop. Be safe.

Schools all around our area are opening this week, and as can be imagined with this COVID CRISIS not everything is normal business. Buses, children, traffic etc may not be as expected; delays and confusion for many. Please be patient, never pass a stopped school bus with lights on unless the driver has eye contact with you and motions you to proceed. Also plan for delays; bus drivers are going to be stopping at residences and normal stops looking for students that may be othe...rwise doing online classes. Social distancing may also cause loading and unloading of buses longer as students can’t pile together. There may even be multiple buses due to occupancy issues. This will also change daily as not all the same students go to school everyday. We hope everyone stays safe, get to work on time, children make it to their classes and mostly that Covid goes away as quickly as it came. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE THIS POST TO EXTEND THE REACH OF THIS INFORMATION.

We understand a lot of people are disappointed in towns not doing their 4th of July displays this year; and that many individuals plan to do their own. We ask that you take a few considerations in safety and mindfulness: Practice good safety techniques ... Keep crowds away from the person lighting Keep a bucket of water close- remember you won’t have a fire department on standby a few feet away ready to extinguish any embers or do a grid search for rogue materials burning Light fireworks with something longer than a lighter Know your area of where things may fly and land Do not let children light or get close Sparklers burn hot and can hurt exposed skin quickly-chemicals used in the sparklers may also react with water Also please take into consideration your neighbors and their pets. Besides noises close to their houses keeping them awake or startling them and their pets; there are many Service members who may suffer from a PTSD-PTSI incident where this night is a difficult time. Patchin Fire does not condone the illegal use of Fireworks and hopes everyone enjoys the holiday safely without incident. The link below is a NYS bulletin pertaining to which Fireworks are legal for use and which are not. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY http://www.dhses.ny.gov//info/documents/2015/sparklers.pdf

Summer is here! Which means we are all seeing an increase in outdoor activities, for example biking! It is important that we are staying protect...ed and safe while riding our bicycles and a great example of this is wearing our helmets! Bike accidents without helmets are far more likely to result in death or brain trauma! For more information on the importance of wearing helmets click the link below! https://bayareabicyclelaw.com/bike-accidents-without-helme/ NYS Bicycle Rules: https://www.dot.ny.gov/display/programs/bicycle/faq
