And this is why I love my job.

Surveyors do more than just property lines. Yesterday I helped the electricians set these pull boxes at the correct elevation so that the tops will sit flush with what will soon be a paved walkway.

I spent yesterday surveying almost a mile along the Canadian border. The boundary monuments were easy to find and interesting. They were dated between 1845 and 2013 with the older monuments being set shortly after it was discovered that Fort Montgomery (aka Fort Blunder) was being built about 1/2 mile north of the border. The fort was then moved to its present location.

There was a flurry of activity in Upper Jay yesterday as crews worked to remove ice from the Ausable River. This is just one photo in a series of over 500 taken of the entire 1.3 mile long ice jam. The photos will be stitched together to create an orthomosiac image that can be used to create surface models, contours and cross sections to aid in engineering analysis.

Even though it was cold yesterday, it was still a great day to enjoy the view on the Ausable River.

Old survey stakes make excellent kindling wood. Make sure the contractors are done with them first though.

It would be a nice day to work on the lake if there was no wind. At least the temps have come up.

I'm really enjoying the change in the weather.

I have heard that we're going to have a cold winter but based on this nest, I assume there won't be much snow.
