Trusted Pediatric information from Allied's after-hours Telemedicine Doctor and EpiPen carrier, Naomi Zilkha, MD: As I watched the first New Yorker get the Pfizer COVID vaccine, I realized that I should check the expiration date on my EpiPens. The CDC has recommended for EpiPen carriers to make sure they have them on hand at the time of COVID vaccination. Although I will not be getting the COVID vaccine today, I hope to in the not so distant future. It turned out my EpiPens h...ave expired (luckily it’s been many years since I have needed one) and I will be getting a new 2 pack later today. Currently, the Covid vaccine is only approved for ages 16 years and up, but if your teen has a history of severe allergic reactions, contact your trusted pediatrician to discuss the recommendations for this new and exciting vaccine. If your child carries an epi-pen for ANY reason, please take some time today to check the expiration date. If the EpiPen is expired, please arrange to get a new prescription for your child. An easy way to do that would be to see me after-hours Monday through Friday from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, and I will be happy to help you with that. Dr. Z

Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate! Hanukkah or Chanukah is a Jewish holiday known as the festival of lights commemorating the Macabees reclaiming the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after defeating the Greek-Syrians, known as the mightiest army on earth. A menorah is lit each night of Hanukkah to celebrate the miracle of oil lasting 8 days in the second temple, when there was only enough oil to burn for one day.
