Over the last 25 years, PENCIL has connected more than 33,000 #students to success by building partnerships that bring together #businessprofessionals and students across NYC. We are now on a mission to connect 50,000 students to success by 2023. Your support of the #50kFutures Campaign will help provide New York City’s #publicschool students with more #mentorship, #internships, #skilldevelopment, #careerawareness, and access to life-changing opportunities. Join us today, by... sponsoring the campaign, hosting a network convening, or joining the steering committee. One of the most crucial benefits for companies that are part of PENCIL’s program is the value the partnership brings to an employee’s work life. Especially during COVID-19, when most people are working remotely and #stuckathome, interacting with students can give employees a morale boost and add to the much needed #worklifebalance. Thank you for setting a high standard LinkedIn by encouraging your employees to give back and support NYC's #publicschools. If your company is l...ooking for opportunities to invest in public education, visit: https://lnkd.in/gGx69Zy #education #opportunities #leadership #csr #giveback

Most students who join PENCIL don’t have an existing network that can help them build on their college and #careergoals. Like Karen, #publicschool students in PENCIL programs get access to #nyc business professionals who connect them to success To ensure that more students get this access, support our #50kfutures campaign!

We spoke a lot about #resumes during our workshops with #nycstudents and @verizon and DTCC. What are some common mistakes that you most definitely avoid on your resume?

Tune in to PENCIL's Instagram tomorrow at 2 p.m. to learn about Evolone Layne's PENCIL #successstory. Have a question about #womeninstem or majoring in #computerscience? Evolone's got all the answers! She is currently a freshman at @howard1867 and has her hands full excelling in class and designing an app to encourage voting in Black communities. Earlier this year, Evolone was part of PENCIL's career explorer program where she developed an interest for #softwareengineering. Thanks to her mentor, Meshach Jones from @bloomberg, she also learned how to design an application using #swift. To support more students like Evolone, consider checking out our new #50kfutures campaign!

At PENCIL, we firmly believe in the idea that if students can see it, they can be it. When #publicschool students meet role models from their community, they feel determined to fill the shoes of these incredibly successful professionals. Students get an opportunity to learn about new professions, network with the business community in #nyc and get college and career training from their role models!

Academic rigor is an incomplete strategy to prepare young people for success in today’s competitive professional and educational environments. Our vision is a city filled with students whose opportunities match their ambitions. Starting on October 6th, PENCIL is launching its open source programming available to all students who attend #nycpublicschools. Topics include #networking, #interviewing, #personalbrand and #college and #career preparedness. Stay tuned to see our first weekly schedule.

We are super excited to announce our partnership with @saatva! At PENCIL, we believe that the business community in #newyorkcity is uniquely positioned to #supportstudents in #public schools. Today we are paying tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a fierce feminist, civil rights hero, and one of the most fabulous judges and #socialjustice advocates of our generation. Her legacy is inspirational to countless women who choose to pursue #law and follow her footsteps. RBG believed that a successful professional paves the path for those who don't have access to equal opportunities. At PENCIL, we believe in the same philosophy. By bringing business professionals to schools..., we hope to help #publicschool students realize that they belong in all professional settings. Students can visualize filling the shoes of the role models they meet in the community. Simply put, if they can see it, they can be it.

Earlier this year, our students and team had the opportunity to attend a session with @issuevoter, a non profit, nonpartisan organization. They highlighted the issue of low #youthvoter turnout and encouraged students to become an informed voter. On #nationalvoterregistrationday, we encourage you to register to #vote and motivate your friends and family to do the same!

Meet another one of our career explorers: Tin Do. Through PENCIL’s work based learning program, Tin worked with a mentor at @bloomberg and learned #python, #anaconda data analysis tools and #htmlcss. Thank you PENCIL for such a great opportunity, Tin said. For his mentor, Sharon Mustri, he kept it simple as well: she is the absolute best!
