It was a BEAUTIFUL morning for Tai Chi in the park! We also had the privilege of watching another Tai Chi Master do her form for us! During the summer months, Penn Yan Tai Chi meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 am in Red Jacket Park. Join us!

I know many of us do not consider Tai Chi as a fighting style of Martial Arts...here is an example of how Tai Chi can be used in self-defense. Notice that (just like in the Tai Chi form movements) the spiraling movements, sinking, balance, and then full body incorporation of everything together are all very important.

Stunning Tai Chi form - even though it's slow, you can see how Tai Chi is indeed a martial art with different stances, strikes, and blocks. Chen style is the oldest Tai Chi style. There are 5 different styles in total: Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun & Hao. Consider your goal and physical abilities when determining which tai chi is right for you. If you’re a beginner looking for a style that is easy to adopt, Yang and Wu style are easier to learn than some of the other styles. If you ...are recovering from an injury, Yang style is the recommended style to practise. The upright posture and easily adapted stances will put the least amount of stress on muscles and joints. The slow, gentle stretching and strengthening of the muscles will help with recovery. If your goal is to build leg strength or stretch out tight muscles, you’ll see faster results from tai chi styles that incorporate larger movements and more extension, like Chen style tai chi and the larger Yang form.
