'Tis the time, and the season! 2020 is almost at its end. What a year! We have been very touched and moved by all your courage, commitment and enthusiasm in the midst of a year full of unknowns. From all the things we do at People's Theatre Project, Pre-Academy Saturdays is on the top of our list! Being in the presence of these wonderful and fierce young actors-activists fills us with joy and gratitude. And so, since we can not be in person with you all to celebrate the students, we put together a virtual production, showcasing the magic that happens each week behind the scenes. Get comfortable, grab una merienda, and enjoy our special edition of Winter Parranda 2020: ¡Seguimos! Porque así es familia, siempre pa'lante, siempre seguimos. ~ Zafi Dimitropoulou Del Angel & Ambar Colón Fargas

Afro-Queer performance & visual artist @williethegenius is currently in residence at the PTP Studio, working alongside director, Sajda Waite. They’re currently workshopping their upcoming theatre show and docuseries WILLIE GETS NAKED! This work is a performance of music, lip-syncing, drag, poetry, and monologues, as well as a biting, open and honest, witty dialogue on race, religion, politics, addiction, and microaggressions where audience members become "spect-actors." PTP Spotlight: Hailey Perez Hailey Perez is in 6th grader at City College Academy of the Arts. She will be 12 years old this April. Outside of school, she enjoys singing and playing music. She is obsessed with her new piano and likes to watch Victorious on Nickelodeon. What drew you to PTP? ... I discovered PTP, thanks to my mom. She was on Facebook and saw People’s Theatre Project. She said, Hailey, I think you should check this out. It seems really cool! When I watched the videos that were on the Facebook page, it looked like its own community, and everybody was treating each other like family. I was like, I want to be a part of that. I want to do all that acting stuff. At PTP, it looked like so much fun, and it brought me so much joy when I was able to join. I love PTP in general. It’s a space where you can actually be you. You don’t have to worry about what other people say about you. You don’t have to worry about what you look like. You don’t have to worry that others will bully or reject you for who you are. Do you have a favorite memory at PTP so far? I do! I was in a Winter Parranda, and I was a pea. It was a magical scene, and there were so many things. Some of my classmates were candy---like Jawbreakers!---but I was green and a circle, like a pea. There were candy canes. In another scene, I was acting as a [school] principal and had to speak gibberish. I thought it was funny. I couldn’t do anything without laughing!

As we start 2021, we are leaning on our values of Equity and Bravery, and we remain hopeful. At PTP, we continue to do the work that builds our communities: centering immigrant stories and ensuring that our voices and the voices of our young artists are heardbecause, as our young people say: we have something to say!
