Perry Herald 01.01.2021

Two weeks of Page 1 Heralds because I'm just so darn busy I forget to take care of the posts when I should!

Perry Herald 18.12.2020

Here is this week's front page. It's a good issue from vivid Chalk Art Festival photos on Pages 1, 6 & 7 to the interesting news on the outlet dam (Pg. 1, 3 Village of Perry Board) and property sales/assessments in Castile including Silver Lake on Page 8's Castile Town Board, which is where I first learned of the dam. Head's up to golf cart drivers on the east side of the lake, patrols and security cameras are watching....

Perry Herald 07.12.2020

I'm actually ahead of the game this week even though the paper had to go through relayout when a legal notice appeared with lines through it after I made the pdf of the issue. So a little late on deadline but done. Here's Page 1. Please if you can go out and buy a Herald, like it, subscribe to it. It's just another small business trying to stay afloat.

Perry Herald 02.12.2020

Here I am working on the upcoming Aug. 13 Herald and realizing I forgot to post the Aug. 6 front page. Here it is.

Perry Herald 23.11.2020

I know it's been a few weeks since I posted Herald pages but lordy, I've been busy! And this week was crazy busy and it's only Wednesday! Yikes.

Perry Herald 10.11.2020

Apologies for not posting Herald front pages for the past couple? of weeks. By the time each issue is done I truly need to get out of my office! With good weather and outside work that beckons, I forget about Facebook. Here's the June 18 front page jpg. It's a pretty jam-packed issue. There wasn't even room for my own article on Phase 3 opening guidelines for food services and personal care industries. You will like reading about Silver Lake Twin Drive-In and Charcoal Corral's news and rules on this week's page 7. Locally, the Herald is sold at Perry Market Place, Crosby's and Walgreens. In Warsaw, find it at the Pennysaver headquarters. There are 3 other outlets (Biblio Tech Cafe, Charcoal Corral and Daryl's Pizzeria) that carry it when we are not having a pandemic! How strange to even say that.

Perry Herald 05.11.2020

We managed to fit the PCS and LCS Top Tens in one issue. Whew! Ran our first column from LCS teacher Candy Laird on working during COVID, too. Hope more teachers send in their experiences. Next week, LCS music teacher Jason Decker will be featured.

Perry Herald 22.10.2020

We are fortunate to live in a community that cares - about each other, our businesses, our past and our future.

Perry Herald 14.10.2020

By deadline this week I was running on empty. Pages 1 and 12 for print should have been in full color--except I think I forgot to let the printer know! Argh! I can be my own worst enemy, the devil is in those darn details! I am posting pages 1 and 2 this week on Facebook. I hear there's a virtual exhibit opening at the Arts Council tonight, better check that out...

Perry Herald 24.09.2020

Another week and after this Herald was published the county had a COVID update, that being there are two more positive cases and 1 more death. Of course, that number can change after this post! Here are pages 1 and 3 for this week, check out the hospital's new robot!

Perry Herald 12.09.2020

My bad, I also last week posted an incorrect item about Rotary's $20K Give the Gift of Perry program. It stated that certificates would be available through Bank of Castile. That is not correct and solely my inserted edit to the original press release. The correct info is posted here: COVID-19: Rotary Club Donates $20,000 to Those in Need Perry, N.Y. Perry Rotary Club is embracing its motto of Service Above Self by partnering with Perry Central School District for the G...ive the Gift of Perry project. Rotary is donating a minimum of $20,000 directly to households in need in the community by issuing gift certificates to each household. Gift certificates may be used to purchase food, services and supplies at a variety of businesses in Perry. For those who would like to provide additional support toward this initiative, please send your donations marked Give the Gift of Perry to: Perry Rotary Club Foundation, Inc., PO BOX 339, Perry, NY 14530. "During this unprecedented time, the Perry Rotary Club remains steadfast in its commitment to serving its community, said Denis Berwanger, Rotary President. This project will support those in need and our local business community simultaneously. By partnering with the school district, we are able to expand our existing relationship with a local entity that has taken the lead during the COVID-19 pandemic. Combining Rotary's resources with the District's is an ideal way for us to continue to fulfill our motto: Service above self." The District has constructed a simple survey that is posted on its website and Facebook page. Submitted surveys will be reviewed by the District’s counseling/social work department. In-need households will receive $100 in Give the Gift of Perry certificates. Individuals who complete the survey and receive gift certificates will remain anonymous. Individuals without school-age children may complete the survey. The address for the survey is: https://forms.gle/pHKYMJsjBrFpJVTWA. "This project supports the District's first priority during the COVID-19 pandemic: ensuring the safety and security of our community, said Superintendent Daryl McLaughlin. From the beginning, we have been committed to utilizing local resources to meet the needs of our students, families, and community. By ‘Giving the Gift of Perry,’ we are able to expand our partnership with Rotary and fulfill the District's mission: Learning, Leading and Serving. I would like to thank the Perry Rotary Club and its membership for developing an innovative solution to meet the needs of the Perry community." See more

Perry Herald 27.08.2020

Oops, I forgot to post the front page for the April 16 Herald. Here it is.

Perry Herald 24.08.2020

If ever you thought what Rotary was all about, it's about giving back to the community. That and fun meetings with interesting programs!

Perry Herald 12.08.2020

What a difference a day or two makes. The county's positive COVID-19 cases hit 32 this weekend. Wish I could get more particulars on this but nothing has happened for me yet.

Perry Herald 30.07.2020

April 2 front page is below March 26.

Perry Herald 30.06.2020

Hope you find this front page interesting. Subscriptions welcome!

Perry Herald 18.06.2020

Glad to hear of interest in former subscribers renewing. It is simple if you still write checks. Rates are $1/week or $49/year (due to traditional vacations/burnout). Checks should be made payable to LS Press or Perry Herald and mailed to 7851 State Route 39, Perry, NY 14530.

Perry Herald 04.06.2020

I had hoped posting parts of the Herald would boost sales either by subscription or in stores but neither happened. I stopped for a long time sidetracked with important life stuff. I decided to try again maybe not every week but at least this week. I welcome feedback on pages you'd prefer to read such as Down Memory Lane.

Perry Herald 06.05.2020

This week's front page and Down Memory Lane. Families of students at PES ought to buy this issue for its two full pages (inside) on Citizenship Day!

Perry Herald 25.04.2020

Just felt like adding Page 2 this week because I like tradition and achievers, like the Perry kids who do well in school and on to careers.

Perry Herald 19.04.2020

Not sure what I clicked to get two pages of Down Memory Lane posted today. It's a case of not enough coffee coupled with working on two PCs at the same time I think.....

Perry Herald 14.04.2020

Here is this week's front page. It's a very full issue so I hope you subscribe or buy it locally at Rite Aid, Perry Market Place, Rocker's, Crosby's (ArrowMart), the Charcoal Corral, and in Warsaw at the Pennysaver on N. Main. With the upcoming opening of Biblio-Tech in the former Burlingham Books we should be returning there to vend Heralds. The ribbon-cutting for Biblio and the new Thrive Fitness 24/7 in the next block beside Harding's Plumbing & Heating is this Saturday. And Perry Farmers' Market also opens Saturday! Eat your veggies. And fruits, strawberries and mixed lettuces should be ready?!

Perry Herald 05.03.2020

It's been a while since the last front page posts so apologies for that. Hoping these three Page 1s will find you interested! This is a very busy time for the paper. Congrats to all the local graduates!

Perry Herald 01.03.2020

The April 26 issue is in the press so hope you enjoy this preview but if possible, stop into a local store and buy a copy!

Perry Herald 12.02.2020

Spent some time this week going through pages of motions filed by D.A. Don O'Geen for Joe Mlyniec's case and arraignment. What tough work Don and his staff tackle. So appreciate their commitment as well as that of the investigators involved. Only part of my recap appears on Page 1. The rest is on Page 3 but I'm not posting that today. Buy the paper and instead, enjoy Page 2 which features Rotary's famous Raffle list (I have tickets to sell) and Down Memory Lane (the one with the guys in pink tutus)...

Perry Herald 06.02.2020

There is much in this week's issue that I hope readers will like--enough to buy a copy at a store or even subscribe or advertise! It features coverage of the fire department banquet, the counterfeit money case, a visit by PCS alum/WGRZ anchor Kate Welshofer, the dairy princess candidates (good luck this weekend, girls!), the latest at the arts council, the library and school boards, the basketball-cheerleading banquet (great photos) and as always, Down Memory Lane. I learn a lot about Perry from Down Memory Lane. Hope you do, too.

Perry Herald 19.01.2020

This is what I am referring to as the good news issue since once again there was no room for the Sheriff's report and I had not received police reports. As for the Sheriff's reports of late, the arrests were mostly outside Perry and Castile.

Perry Herald 13.01.2020

There's a little bit for every interest (except crime this week. There was no room for the Sheriff's report and there was no Perry PD report). But there is news from the hospital on page 1 and page 9, a new business on pages 1 and 3, recaps of the school musicals on pages 6 and 8, an Easter Egg Hunt and a foundation visit with entrepreneurs, etc. Can't forget Down Memory Lane!

Perry Herald 06.01.2020

Spring already? Doesn't look or feel that way to me. Still have a four foot pile of show in my driveway! Greatly appreciate folks who brave the weather to get their Perry Heralds at the stores each week -- or even getting them in their mailboxes! Here's a peak at this week's issue. Makes me want pancakes with maple syrup....Hope you are all still voting for your favorite fish fries from a Wyoming County restaurant before the County Chamber contest ends. I cast my ballot.

Perry Herald 25.12.2019

Full and busy week in Perry, a community reeling from the news of late. Newspapers are in the stores and available in your mailbox or inbox by subscription.

Perry Herald 07.12.2019

Town of Perry Councilman Joe Mlyniec was charged with second degree murder yesterday afternoon following the shooting death of Robert Irvine III on Mlyniec's property on Route 246. Wyoming County Sheriff has a press conference today at 10 AM. For Herald readers, next week's issue will carry updated info as it unfolds.

Perry Herald 18.11.2019

This week's Herald is finally done and redone and redone...last minute notices that had to run. It's an interesting issue at a store near you--if you live in Perry! Here's Page 1.

Perry Herald 05.11.2019

I've been remiss in posting Herald pages. Actually the break from most social media hasn't been all that bad.

Perry Herald 11.10.2019

This week's front page includes a photo of a missing dog Bruiser but the good news is that he was just found! I don't mind having a cute pup on the front page, do you? Love happy endings...

Perry Herald 07.10.2019

Another issue put to bed which is where I should be. Thank goodness for coffee, lots of coffee. Hope the front page teaser sends many of you to the store to buy this issue. It's a good one.

Perry Herald 02.10.2019

So glad that after two years of assigning, the Herald has a story of missionary nurse Gail Beardsley's work abroad. She is a blessing to all she encounters and gives Perry another reason to be proud. Now only part of the story is on page 1 this week so do go buy it. The pictures on the inside pages won't be in color due to the cost of color. However, an e-subscription comes to your mailbox weekly and each issue is full color. Think on that....

Perry Herald 13.09.2019

Apologies are due for neglecting the posts of the Herald. Swamped as usual with non-news but necessary business reports and well, business. Here is this week's front page.

Perry Herald 28.08.2019

Another week, another Herald and gratitude for all who read it, pass it on, subscribe, advertise and support it however they may. Congratulations to everyone's friend, Eric Kelly, on his being honored by Perry Rotary Club! Like his father, Roger, Eric is a Paul Harris Fellow now, the club's highest honor and not often given to a non-member. Earlier in August, retired Perry music teacher, orchestra director and all round beautiful woman Dorothy Regis received the award. While ...the recipients receive certificates and pins and their names etched in a plaque, the club raises and donates $1K in their name to the Rotary Foundation to better the lives of others around the world be it through literacy programs, water and other health initiatives, storm relief, food, you name it, Rotary is there. So glad to belong to such a club whose many events raise money that stays right here. Have you seen the Village Park and the Splash Pad? Can't wait to see what its support at the public beach brings! See more

Perry Herald 17.08.2019

This week's Herald is full of the good work and talents of so many folks around here or originally from here and back for a visit or reaching out across the ocean to help others. I'm posting more than I usually do hoping that you will be inspired to buy a printed issue or subscribe. If you subscribe, you are entitled to receive an on-line pdf which is in full color each week. It's easy to subscribe, just send a check for $49 payable to LS Press and mail it to me at 7851 Route... 39, Perry, NY 14530. Lots of former residents get the Herald and really enjoy reading what's going on here now and in the past (homage to the popular Down Memory Lane). There are no forms to fill out to subscribe unless you run into dedicated reporter Mary Hotchkiss who will be glad to hand you one that she made me make for her to hand out. She's probably at Pike Fair this week doing just that! See more

Perry Herald 29.07.2019

I know, it's been far too long since my last Herald post. Been super busy with the paper and living life! Rather than post this week's front page with coverage of the ribbon cutting for Silver Lake Brewing Project, Castile's old ambulance-turned equipment truck and Shane Johnson's proposal during the July 3 fireworks, I chose Page 12. Why? I love the kid in the front left basketball camp photo and all the dairy ambassador's at Reisdorf's farm night at Wyoming County International Speedway. Hope you do, too. Oh, and our son Ray and wife Erin had an adorable son, Mark James on Monday, 7/17/17 (a pallindrome)! Sorry not pics there per parental edict.

Perry Herald 25.07.2019

Front pages from this week and last...Need Rotary Raffle tickets? I restocked! Call or email

Perry Herald 15.07.2019

It has been about 3 weeks since my last front page post. Yikes. I've been soooo busy--even squeezed in a quick trip to NYC, my favorite place. If only the train ride back had been smoother, said she with the wrenched back ... Hope this front page teases you into buying all 16 pages. Congratulations to Todd Campbell on the LCS Superintendent's post. He's such a good guy.

Perry Herald 27.06.2019

Here is this week's front page.

Perry Herald 26.04.2019

Breakfast with Santa and a Murder Sentencing on Page 1 - how strange is that?

Perry Herald 01.04.2019

There's lots more inside this issue. Buy at Arrow-Mart, Burlingham Books, Perry Market Place, Rite Aid, Warsaw Pennysaver. Or, subscribe! $49/year.

Perry Herald 21.03.2019

There's a photo op at the country club just waiting for you!

Perry Herald 04.03.2019

Perry Herald 10.02.2019

Another issue put to bed!

Perry Herald 21.01.2019

It's been a while but oh so busy I've been. Here's a peek at this week's Herald.

Perry Herald 03.01.2019

This week's front page. Page two's editorial (not shown here) has some info on the apartment house that burned. There is a for sale sign in front of it and the owner told reporter Mary Jane H that she plans to repair it. Page 16 (also not shown, hint, please go buy it) carries MJ's story on planned apartments. And just to tease you a bit more, Landmarks latest magazine has a Perry story in it.

Perry Herald 26.12.2018

Saw the inside of this apartment house years ago. Stained glass windows and beautiful woodwork. Big loss today. Reporter Mary Syberg took these photos. Grateful. Not many details on it yet.

Perry Herald 13.12.2018

Bruce Carney in Castile just treated Rotary to lunch and a tour at Wolf Creek Event Center and Dwight Saunders gave a brief talk on his family's mission work here and in Africa. You can rent Wolf Creek for events and you can support Dwight's project to build group homes and water wells in Uganda. His wife Lynne blogs about their work and raising 14 children! The Herald ran a story last year on her book "Rescuing Ruby" and I think there will be a new article in an upcoming edition. Here's some of this week's Herald. I am experimenting with the Bzduch boys photo size. Nate's son is a cutie but as I look at the photo now, his head is cut off. Resize? Hmm.

Perry Herald 09.12.2018

This week's peek is Pg. 2

Perry Herald 02.12.2018

Crime, crime, everywhere a crime....And some speed demons

Perry Herald 13.11.2018

And now pg 2. Library voting results and a must-see Arts Council exhibit.

Perry Herald 01.11.2018

Jam-packed issue as usual.
