Historians agree that just after the Civil War, one in four cowboys were African American. Yet this population was drastically underrepresented in popular accounts. Based in the rural flatlands of the Mississippi Delta and the rolling hills that border it, Delta Hill Riders by Rory Doyle, sheds light on an overlooked community of horse ridersone that resists historical and contemporary stereotypes. TOMORROW WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21 @ 7:30pm Please join the Reality Poets alongside filmmakers Andres "Jay" Molina and Alexis Neophytides for the trailer release of their forthcoming documentary, FIRE THROUGH DRY GRASS, and a conversation about #ownvoices pandemic storytelling. https://www.firethroughdrygrass.com/... Last year for our festival, we were so proud to partner with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment to commission photographer Elias Williams, who collaborated with the incredible Reality Poets who are all part of the Open Doors program. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disproportionately affect people of color, poor people, currently and formerly incarcerated Americans, and nursing home residents, Molina and Neophytides will discuss the critical impact of documenting from the inside and uplifting narratives from the communities most at risk. Barreling toward election day, at a time when the pandemic is on the tip of every politician's tongue, Molina and Neophytides will share their artistic visions for documenting the vulnerability and devastation within one American nursing home as it really happened. https://www.firethroughdrygrass.com/ And if you'd like to support the film you can do so via the film's fiscal sponsor here: https://www.wmm.com/sponsored-proje/fire-through-dry-grass/ Open Doors
