Happy Birthday Joe! Joseph Pilates was sent to an internment camp during World War I where he developed his contrology exercise system. When he immigrated to NYC he used this system with many others including soldiers, dancers, and boxers. His Contrology system used the mind to control the body and focused on deep core abdominal muscles to build full-body strength, increase flexibility, and improve overall health. Pilates was a true inventor and used everything from bed springs to whiskey barrels to create his apparatus. Pilates does make you stronger and more flexible but it will also make everyday movements and activities easier and improve overall heath
