Everyone you meet in Plattsburgh brings different experiences, opportunities, and knowledge that help broaden your own sense of self and enhances your point of view. Plattsburgh has shown me time and time again that the Professors, faculty, and staff always act as a resource for the students and will go out of their way to aid them in achieving their goals. Message to the Plattsburgh graduate community: -When you get frustrated during your studies, remember your why. Why you started and why you wanted to join the program you chose are what can fuel you to get to the finish line! You may not go where you intended to go, but you’ll end up where you need to be with people supporting you along the way. You’ve already accomplished so much where you are, you’re going to get there! Full name and where I am from: Thomas Landon, I'm from Clifton Park NY Undergrad degree/location: I did my BS here at SUNY Plattsburgh in Individualized Studies focusing in Hospitality Management Hobbies/skills/things I love to do:... I really enjoy being around my friends, taking road trips, baking, as well as playing video games Why I chose SUNY Plattsburgh: I chose SUNY Plattsburgh because I really enjoyed my time here when I was an undergraduate student. I love the surrounding area whether its winter or summer! I have also heard great things about the department that I am now apart of. I was also an RA on this campus for three years and through that position, I discovered my appreciation for Plattsburgh. Message to the Plattsburgh graduate community: When things feel tough and you feel like the odds are stacked against you, just remember that you made it this far! Life is filled with many challenges and we are all putting ourselves through one of life's biggest challenges! You are not alone! You have the support of the amazing faculty, staff, and your cohort! Full name and where I am from: Amanda Suriel, Brooklyn, NY (originally, but have since moved to Plattsburgh, NY) Undergraduate degree/location BA in Communication Studies from SUNY Plattsburgh Hobbies/skills/things I love to do:... I enjoy reading, social justice advocacy, and going on adventures with my children. Why I chose SUNY Plattsburgh: I chose SUNY Plattsburgh for graduate school because, while working in the Administration & Finance division of the college, I had recently discovered that I wanted to instead work with students, on the Students Affairs side of things. I knew that obtaining my graduate degree in this specific program would help me to reach that goal. It was also important for me, as a first generation student, to go as far up the academic ladder as possible. If I set the bar this high, my hope is that it might encourage my boys to go higher. Message to the Plattsburgh graduate community: Keep moving forward! Graduate school can feel overwhelming, but never think you're in this alone. I have learned to lean on my cohort for support and provide that extra push back whenever they might need it. It is has been a great first semester, so far, and I appreciate that we are all in the trenches together. Happy #meetagradmonday from Cardinal Country! Full name and where I am from: Grace Kelly, Beekmantown NY Undergrad degree/location:... Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Double major in Psychology and Business, Education minor), St.Lawrence University. Hobbies/skills/things I love to do: I love to travel. London, UK has my heart always. I'm a big fan of playing volleyball with friends and going on long runs with my dog, Layla. Also, if you ever come across me, there is a high probability I will be singing whatever song got stuck in my head that morning. Music is a big part of my life. Why I chose SUNY Plattsburgh: For one, I chose SUNY Plattsburgh because of how close it is to my home. I'm beyond excited to be by my little brother's side when he graduates high school next year. Also, I was drawn to the faculty and student ratio of my masters program. I've always been a fan of smaller class sizes because they challenge me to express myself and learn the material in depth. Message to Grad Students: You are enough. It may seem overwhelming at times, but don't doubt yourself. It's important to allow yourself to grow and learn from your mistakes.
