Point Lookout Lido FD 14.07.2021

Recently we had our annual elections. Our outgoing Chief of Department, Jared Siegelman, was honored for his time as Chief by the County and Town of Hempstead. Chief Siegelman joined Lido Engine Company 1 in 2002 after serving with the Glen Cove Fire Department. He first served as a Lieutenant and from 2013-2015 as Captain of Lido Company. He entered the Chiefs Office in 2015 as 2nd Assistant Chief, in 2017 he became 1st Assistant and became Chief of Department in 2019. Jared... was the first Chief to have joined the Department in the 21st Century. He led the Department through the unprecedented events of COVID. We thank Chief Siegelman for his time and dedication to the Deparment and Community. We also honored our incoming Chief of Department, James J. Guerin. James joined Renegade H&L Co.#2 in 2006 as a 3rd generation firefighter. He served as Lieutenant and Captain. In 2017 James joined the Chief's Office as 2nd Assistant Chief and then became 1st Assistant Chief in 2019. James joins his grandfather and older brother as family who have held the position of Chief of the Department. Incoming 1st Assistant Chief Bill Wade joined our Department in 2010 after previously serving with the Oceanside Fire Department for many years. He rose through the ranks of Lido Engine Company 1 as Lieutenant and Captain. In 2019 he became 2nd Assistant Chief. Our incoming 2nd Assistant Chief is Chris Guerin. Chris joined Renegade H&L Co#2 in 2008 after previously serving as a junior firefighter. He rose through the ranks as Lieutenant and Captain of Co#2. He is a 3rd generation firefighter also and a Marine Corps veteran. He joins his grandfather and 2 older brothers as family having served in the Chiefs Office. Our 3rd Assistant Chief Doctor David Neubert was also reappointed as our EMS Chief. Dr. Neubert has been an invaluable resource and has been at the forefront of the COVID pandemic. He serves as medical director with the Town of Hempstead and as a physician with NYU Langone Winthrop. We thank our outgoing and incoming Chiefs and Officers for their time and dedication.

Earlier today we responded to assist the Westbury Fire Department. They were battling a very large fire and required help from almost every department in Nassau County and several Suffolk Departments too. The fire started Wednesday evening and was still burning into Thursday afternoon. Our crew initially stood by at the Westbury Firehouse and we were redirected to the scene where we operated for several hours to supply water to Tower Ladders. Photo Credit: P.L.L.F.D.

At approximately 2000hrs on Thursday January 7, 2021 the #pllfd was alerted to an auto accident on Lido Blvd West Bound between Bath Street and Buxton Street in front of the Lido Golf Course. Initial reports stated people were pinned in the auto and the vehicles had overturned. Chief 2501 arrived first and confirmed a 2 car motor vehicle crash with one person still in a car. Ultimately the driver was able to be removed safely. The drivers of each vehicle were evaluated by E.M.S. The removal of the one vehicle was delayed due to downed wires. N.C.P.D. had the road shut down and traffic diverted. All operations were under the command of First Assistant Chief James Guerin. Photo: P.L.L.F.D.

Very early this morning, around 1230am, we were alerted to assist the Freeport Fire Department. They had a fire in a business on Guy Lombardo Avenue. Initially there was an explosion and their incident commander requested multiple ambulances forthwith. We sent an ambulance right away. Our truck company also assisted at the scene along with multiple fire departments from around the area. We operated for a total of 4 hours. Thankfully there were no major injuries sustained. Over the last few days there have been multiple serious accidents along area parkways. This afternoon around 445pm we were alerted to a report of 2 overturned autos on the ramp from the Loop parkway to the Meadowbrook parkway northbound. Upon arrival, the Chief determined only 1 car was overturned and the driver was not seriously injured.... Traffic was affected for approximately 45 minutes. Please be safe out there!
