Today, Poland commemorates the 11th anniversary of the #Smolesk plane crash, which took the lives of President Lech Kaczyski, his wife, Maria, and 94 other senior state & military officials. May they rest in peace, and may their dedication to the Polish nation never be forgotten.

During the Polish-Soviet War, Poland was supported by the United States. 16 Americans formed one of the bravest units in the war with Bolshevik Russia: the ...- 7th Fighter Squadron, named after Tadeusz Kociuszko. At the request of President Thomas Woodrow Wilson, the United States granted Poland a war loan of 176 million dollars. People need monuments of heroes to constantly remind us what path humanity should follow. Although, Jan Karski was not fond of monuments, there is a growing num...ber of commemorative plaques and monuments erected to honor him and what he had done. There are already 7 statues of Jan Karski seating on a bench. The sculptures were created by polish artist Karol Badyna, from Cracow. The first Karski’s bench was established in 2002 in Washington at the Georgetown University campus. Second, was established in Kielce. The third statue is located in the front of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland and the corner of 37th Street and Madison Avenue is called "Jan Karski Corner". Additional statues are in Lodz, in Tel Aviv, in Warsaw (near Polin Museum) and in Cracow (Kaziemierz). #JanKarski #WeRemember

Graffiti can be washed off. The loss of a loved one is eternal. But Kosciuszko was the wrong target for this frustration. Kosciuszko dedicated his salary as a General from the American Revolution for the emancipation and education of enslaved Africans. He asked that his money be used to buy land, livestock and farming tools for liberated slaves so that they could make their own living as free citizens of the United States. He knew that Black Lives Matter. Respectful of Kosciuszko’s efforts, Booker T. Washington wrote in his memoirs, When I visited the tomb of Kosciuszko [in Krakow] I placed a rose on it in the name of my race. When Native Americans learned that Kosciuszko stood up for their rights, chief Little Turtle presented him with an honorary peace pipe. When Jews saw that Kosciuszko stood up for their rights, Berek Joselewicz started a Jewish cavalry to join the Polish hero and called him a messenger from God. And when Kosciuszko started an uprising in Poland to free enslaved White serfs, a Black man from Haiti joined the cause as his aide de camp. Kosciuszko was a man ahead of his time. That’s why the Kosciuszko Foundation will contribute to the cleansing of the Statue in Lafayette Park, and we urge all Americans to learn more about Kosciuszko’s vision of tolerance. #OnThisDay Bohdan Stanislaw Arct was born (b. 27 May 1914 in Warsaw ), Polish Squadron Leader, a fighter pilot of the @PolishAirForce in World War II, and .a c...artoonist and a prolific writer. Between 1944 and 1973 he wrote forty-four books, mostly on wartime aviation, including his memoirs, with four million copies sold overall. His most important book is considered to be Kamikadze Boski Wiatr, a novel about a Kamikaze pilot. Until the fall of Poland at the beginning of World War II, Arct fought in the Polish armed forces. He then escaped to France and served as a flight instructor in North Africa. During mid 1943 he flew missions in North Africa with the Polish Fighting Team attached to No. 145 Squadron. Per Embassy of Poland, Washington DC Only weeks after the end of World War I, the Polish-Soviet War broke out in February 1919. Among the ranks of the Polish military was a group of heroic American volunteer pilots who formed the Kosciuszko Fighter Squadron. These airmen helped defend Poland's freedom and stop the Red Army from marching across Europe. The pilots carried out numerous missions, attacking enemy forces, hurting enemy morale and inflicting significant damage. The ...airmen were decorated with some of Poland’s highest military awards for their bravery, service and sacrifice. Their contributions are remembered in Poland to this day. Last September the Polish Defense Attaché Office in Washington together with our Embassy proudly organized an exhibit on the Kosciuszko Squadron in the U.S. Senate building: Winged Scythemen: 7th Air Escadrille of Tadeusz Kosciuszko.
