Financial confession: I have $200,000.00 in student loan debt from Duke and law school. I have $1,200.00 in credit card debt from an emergency plane ticket I had to buy to attend my grandfather's funeral two years ago and the fees of paying for healthcare as an entrepreneur. I have some savings and some retirement money, but the sum I have saved or that is set aside for investments is dwarfed by my debt. I make this post not for sympathy as money always seems to come to me, e...ven when I don't work for it. I make this post because I want to let people know they are not alone in their financial struggles. I recently told a friend of mine that I feel like I'm just getting to the starting line of being able to have a financially secure future. The starting line. After all of my education, after being the first in my immediate family to graduate from college - and at the "normal" age of 22 - I'm just now ready to compete. Don't be ashamed of your financial life. For a while, I stopped giving financial tips just because I thought that people would think I was a fraud given that I'm in so much debt. But everybody's life is different. Don't be too hard on yourself if you have financial troubles.
