Porter Farms CSA

Yesterday and today we used our vacuum seeder to direct seed spinach, radishes, Swiss chard, beets, and lettuces. Our vacuum seeder uses suction (like your home vacuum) to pull seeds onto evenly spaced holes on a round disc. As the disc turns, the seeds drop off, and they fall into the seed furrow. The seed furrow is formed by a pair of opening discs in front of the seed tube. The furrow is closed by a pair of closing wheels after the seed tube. The planter has three row units, allowing us to plant three rows at a time.

Thankful for the beautiful weather at the farm this week so that we could get a bunch of our transplants in. We used our carousel planter (see video in comments) and three wheel transplanter to transplant our second planting of lettuces, dinosaur kale, Asian greens, early cabbages, Swiss chard, and four different varieties of beets. Big shout out to our crew for all of their hard work this week!
