According to a survey by NORC at the University of Chicago, nearly 90% of Americans are washing their hands more this year than ever before. Washing your hands is an easy way to rid yourself of germs and infections. Stay clean this holiday season - sing along to Jingle Bells while you and your little ones wash your hands!

Happy Halloween to our favorite trick-or-treaters! Whether or not you trick-or-treat this year, we're sure you have some spooky fun planned for the evening! Keep these costume safety tips in mind: - Costume accessories, like swords or wands, should be soft and flexible - Always use non-toxic face paint, and test in a small area before applying - Reduce risk of eye injury by avoiding decorative contact lenses... - Make sure costumes allow clear vision and fit well to prevent trips and falls If you do venture out, make sure to bring along some festive face masks and pack plenty of hand sanitizer! Have a Safe Halloween from all of us at Portland Pediatric Group!

We all know and love our Dr. Davis at Portland Pediatric Group! Dr. Davis is a board-certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He received his M.D. from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital. Dr. Davis is also a Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics at his alma mater. When he isn't taking care of your children, he enjoys some good ol' golf, photography, and getting his gym session in. If you are a fan of Dr. Davis, let us know in the comments!

Did you know that children get arthritis, too? Approximately 1 in 1,000 children - over 2 million children worldwide - have some form of arthritis. In celebration of PB&J (Pediatric Bone & Joint) Day, we want to bring awareness to symptoms of childhood arthritis. Children with arthritis may wince with pain or limp more than usual, and tasks like typing, writing, and playing sports can cause joint swelling and pain. Another, perhaps unexpected, symptom to be on the look for is inflammation in the eyes. Arthritis is painful, but it's also treatable, so if you have noticed any of these symptoms we encourage you to give us a call. (585)-342-5665
