The People of PPL: Terran Palmer Potsdam Public Library may be closed due to renovations and The Rona pandemic, as I have come to call it, but it hasn’t stopped some PPL lovers from visiting and taking advantage of the free WiFi. I found Terran Palmer rolling up on the front steps one late-August afternoon and he openly talked about how he loves and misses not just the library, but the staff. I actually live out by St. Regis Falls, but I love it here. I just love that ever...yone who works here is so nice and really helpful and I really love the environment I always have, and it is just really comfy in there. I don’t have anywhere else to use the internet where I feel really comfortable being in for a while, so it is hard to leave because it is easy to find things I enjoy in there. All the periodicals are great. Also, there are surprising collections of books that I appreciate, like in terms of poetry, Eastern religion, things like that, for a library of this size, I have been really impressed with how much of that kind of stuff is here. Whenever I am here I just really enjoy talking with whoever is working and whenever I need to use the internet it’s just really great to know that this is here. It’s honestly been kind of a downer that it hasn’t been open for a while, just because it is so nice to hang out in such a chill environment and get to do whatever I have to do. But while the doors are closed, he said the front steps of the library have been a great place to come and sit and be still for a while. It’s kind of fun to people-watch here, too, right? It’s strange because the car is a really personal space for people and a lot of times they will wind up sitting here for a surprising amount of time and you get to watch people in their own little zone, like not knowing anyone is looking at them, so it is interesting. People are the most interesting thing on the planet. Are you one of The People of PPL? Excited to see that next Saturday's Annual Early Winter Hike/Ski/Snowshoe at Higley Flow State Park is filled. This kind of enthusiasm for our backyard wild is what will keep this kind of program thriving. Look for next month's snowshoe program that will be scheduled in the coming weeks. If you signed up for next week's Higley trip and are unable to attend, please email PPL Adult Program Coordinator William Eckert at [email protected]. If you are interested and an opening becomes available, a waiting list has been started. Send William an email and he will contact you if an opening is available. #pplontheoutside
